The ECMO Coordinator is a hybrid role that has an advanced clinical concentration and with administrative responsibilities for the ECMO Department. The ECMO Coordinator is a Clinician who undergoes very specialized training in the various forms of Extracorporeal Support and has administrative duties parallel to Assistant Nurse Managers (ANMs) and incorporates a leadership requirement for the department. With limited supervision the ECMO Coordinator reports to the ECMO Nurse Manager. For each shift worked the ECMO Coordinator sets up and operates the extracorporeal circulatory equipment that provides the replacement of a patients circulatory respiratory and /or renal functions within the intensive care unit operating room and / or cardiac catheterization lab. Additionally the ECMO Coordinator functions as the departments designated clinical leader for the shift and provides operational oversight and staff supervision. The ECMO Coordinator works in coordination with nursing leadership. The position ensures the achievement of optimal evidence-based patient care and departmental goals through efficient daily operations and compliance with established rules regulations and guidelines. The ECMO Coordinator promotes interdisciplinary collaboration across the organization. The ECMO Coordinator assists with providing leadership presence and staff support by providing coverage in the 24/7 365 ECMO Coverage Model.Additional Job Description
Education: Bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required. Experience: Must be a current ECMO Specialist with a minimum of 1 year of clinical work experience in ECMO. Advanced knowledge of procedures techniques and extracorporeal equipment / disposables technical advances and regulatory agencies and standards within the field of ECMO required. Must pass MUSC Healths ECMO competency assessment within 90 days of hire. Licensure/Certification: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is mandatory. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ALCS) Certification is required.
