Job Summary

Special Education CDC Position Announcement

Foothills Elementary School is seeking a Special Education Teaching Candidate for a CDC (Comprehensive Development Classroom) classroom.

This is a full-time position with benefits for the 2026-2027 school year.

Certification: K-6 Tennessee Department of Education certification with proof of highly qualified status and related work experience; Special Education Certification required.

Expectations: Willingness to participate in a Performance Based Interview by conducting and modeling a lesson with students.

Qualities of a Desired Candidate Include:

  • Desire to build positive relationships with students and their families;
  • Ability to work in collaboration with a team accepting feedback and contributing in a professional learning community;
  • Knowledge of the state content standards and knowledge of effective learning processes and practices;
  • Approach to using both formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction;
  • Possess confidence in integrating technology into instruction and as a means of effective two-way communication with all stakeholders;
  • Desire to organize participate and attend after-school and evening programming such as performances parent meetings and Open House;
  • Assess students needs and develops an individualized education program for students with multiple disabilities;
  • Trains and supervises TAs who work in the classroom with students;
  • Employs effective behavior management techniques to prevent and address aggressive and aberrant behavior;
  • Serves as a team member in determining and implementing student accommodations referral eligibility placement and individual education program development;
  • Maintains frequent and substantive communication with parents related services personnel and supervisors;
  • Complies with local state and federal regulations regarding special education records reports and services;
  • Possess honesty integrity and professionalism.

Selected candidates will be contacted if they have advanced to the next phase of the interview process. The interview process will be conducted by a team of administrators and teachers. All interview candidates will be required to prepare a presentation outlining their knowledge of the TN State Standards Professional Development/Growth Enhancing Classroom Instruction and Assessments.

All applicants must have the ability to perform any physical duties associated with this position (e.g. lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis sitting for long periods of time walking seeing standing for extended periods of time etc.).
