The math specialist is responsible for ensuring that students who need additional support in foundational mathematics receive timely targeted intervention to build confidence and competence while also providing extension opportunities for students ready to deepen and accelerate their learning. The Math Specialist leads and delivers data-driven instruction across a continuum of support- designing and implementing Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions as well as targeted enrichment- using assessments to identify needs monitor progress and adjust instruction. This role prioritizes direct work with students while also collaborating with educators to align core instruction strengthen differentiation and ensure all students are appropriately challenged and supported.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Certified through DESE Math 5-8 or 8-12.
SEI endorsement or additional license in ESL
Masters Degree in Education
Three or more years of recent experience teaching at the middle or high school level in the area of mathematics
Current knowledge of research and effective practices in the areas of MA Curriculum Frameworks for Mathematics including the content standards and standards for mathematical practice
Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible responsive work style
Desired Qualifications:
Experiencing facilitating and supporting adult learners
Familiarity and experience with
a variety of mathematics assessments and interventions
NCTMs Principles to Actions and the eight Mathematics Teaching Practices
administering analyzing and forming groups using mathematics universal screenings
Experience collaborating and problem-solving with teachers.
Experience and coursework in anti-racist anti-bias instruction.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
Use assessment data to identify students in need of intervention or extension group students strategically and monitor progress over time
Provide direct targeted mathematics intervention and enrichment aligned to identified student needs
Coordinate and align mathematics intervention with core (Tier 1) instruction to ensure coherence and acceleration not just remediation
Support mathematics instruction by providing content expertise to staff in equitable practices and Newtons curriculum facilitating data-driven discussions in grade-level meetings and serving as a resource for culturally responsive mathematics instruction across the school community.
Teaching of varied academic class sections in response to data-based decision-making based on student need
Support the implementation of math assessments and analyze data to inform instructional next steps and intervention effectiveness
Serve as a resource to staff on strategies that strengthen intervention differentiation and equitable access to mathematics learning
Participate in professional learning communities and collaborate with other specialists
Fulfill other job-related duties as needed

Work Environment:
Majority of work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the teacher is frequently required to kneel stoop bend and crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand; while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit; walk; lift; or carry.
