    Qualifications:

    1. Holds a valid Iowa teaching license
    2. Has a minimum of three years of teaching experience
    3. Has worked as a certified employee for a minimum of one year in the Southeast Polk CSD
    4. Has demonstrated mastery or a high level of expertise in the use of current strategies and initiatives within content areas with an emphasis on reading and mathematics
    5. Has had successful experiences in collaborating with colleagues coaching/mentoring colleagues presenting at professional workshops and/or teaching teachers
    6. Has articulable successful leadership and coaching experiences in education formally and/or informally
    7. Has earned graduate hours beyond Bachelors Degree (preferred)


    Reports to: Principal and teaching staff

    Job Goal: to assist teachers with their learning performance and development by providing appropriate coaching and direction to them as they make changes focused on improved pedagogy.

    Performance Responsibilities:

    1. Coach teachers throughout all phases of the teaching learning and instructional decision-making process in order to move teachers toward consistent and exemplary teaching practice
    2. Conduct co-taught lessons classroom observations (with pre and post conferences) planning sessions and learning sessions with teachers
    3. Model and coach teachers to realize the vision achieve the mission and conduct their work according to the core values of the Southeast Polk CSD
    4. Provide support and knowledge that inspires and encourages the professional growth of teachers
    5. Take on leadership and/or facilitative roles in work involving professional learning communities data teams collaboration professional development guided inquiry and peer review
    6. Assist in all professional development activities including presenting on defined educational topics or dynamics and appropriate follow-up activities
    7. Participate in all instructional rounds events
    8. Serve in leadership roles in building-wide ad hoc committee work
    9. Organize and facilitate parent learning opportunities at open houses parent/teacher conferences and other special events
    10. Serve as an instructional coach for teachers in the awareness or intensive assistance phases of the evaluation process
    11. Within the Professional Development Steering Committee and using the IPDM model participate in the collaborative design planning conducting and evaluation of all professional development activities.
    12. Serve as the mentor teacher for beginning teachers on a regular basis
    13. Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with colleagues parents staff and community.


    Terms of Employment:

    1. Employed for 205 days
    2. No length of assignment
    3. Stipend set by Board of Education
    4. Position paid from Teacher Leadership and Compensation funding stream


    Position Evaluation: Instructional Coaches are evaluated once per semester by building administration and a minimum of two colleagues with which the Instructional Coach has worked closely. The online Instructional Coach Evaluation Survey will serve as the evaluation tool.

    Notes: Instructional Coaches are 4% of the total certified FTE of the SEPCSD and there are 19 of these positions.
