Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM 5:30 PM)
Job Summary
Navitas Healthcare LLC is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to support surgeons during operative procedures ensuring efficiency safety and optimal patient outcomes. This role involves assisting with surgical tasks maintaining clear visualization of the operative field and demonstrating strong technical proficiency across a variety of surgical cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during procedures under direct supervision to ensure safe and effective operations
- Position patients appropriately to provide optimal surgical exposure
- Maintain clear visualization of the operative field through:
- Retraction suctioning irrigation and sponging
- Tissue manipulation and handling of surgical instruments
- Assist with hemostasis using appropriate techniques
- Perform suturing and closure techniques including:
- Subcutaneous and subcuticular sutures
- Skin closure using sutures staples or adhesive materials
- Administer postoperative subcutaneous injections as directed
- Apply and manage wound dressings and drainage systems
- Assist with harvesting of veins arteries tendons bone and skin as required
- Support major surgical procedures across specialties under surgeon supervision
- Stay current with advancements in surgical technologies and techniques
- Maintain professionalism and positive communication with surgical teams
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment
- Sound clinical judgment and understanding of surgical principles
- Demonstrated competency in surgical assisting skills through formal training
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 4 years of general surgical experience
- At least 2 years of experience in a specialty area
Education Requirements
- Associates Degree in Surgical Assisting
OR - Completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting program
Certifications & Licensure
Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association
Preferred:
- NSAA (National Surgical Assistant Association)
- CFA (Certified First Assistant AST)
- NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
- RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant NASC)
