Job Description
The Part-time Laboratory Technician supports the day-to-day operations of the Mass Spectrometry Facility contributing to service delivery through mass spectrometry and omics-based workflows including proteomics metabolomics and lipidomics. The technician performs routine and advanced sample preparation monitors instrumentation runs and works both independently and collaboratively to ensure efficient and reliable facility operations.
This role supports the development and implementation of new methods standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instrumentation workflows to expand and enhance facility capabilities. The technician also participates in user training and ongoing technical skill development to maintain operational flexibility and technical proficiency.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory organization and safety compliance ensuring SOPs remain current managing laboratory inventory and supply ordering and supporting the laboratory management system. The position may also contribute in a limited capacity to data processing and reporting associated with mass spectrometry analyses.
Required Qualifications
Experience with managing multiple sample sets such as tracking organization and adherence to custody and/or research continuity requirements.
Experience developing methods and/or SOPs to support service development.
Experience working in a chemical laboratory environment including safe handling of chemicals and compressed gas cylinders.
Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry sample preparation and associated workflows.
Experience performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
Proficiency in standard office software applications (e.g. word processing spreadsheets and data management tools).
Demonstrated attention to detail with accurate and thorough documentation of laboratory activities.
Strong communication skills along with effective organizational and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to follow and adhere to established laboratory protocols and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Willingness to train and support new users on scientific instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or training in Biochemistry Biology Chemistry or a closely related life sciences field.
Experience with analysis of omics data (e.g. proteomics metabolomics lipidomics).
Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar platforms.
