ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Since 1984 Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) a non-profit organization has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults opportunities to learn grow and experience success. Through partnerships with conservation agencies youth and young adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects from which they can earn a paycheck high school credit and/or an AmeriCorps educational award. More importantly these young people gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient benefit their communities as citizen stewards and recognize that they can make a positive difference.
NYC also operates an accredited charter school internship program and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC).
NYC engages youth and young adults from all walks of life and provides a multifaceted experience that helps propel them into future opportunities and careers. Hard and soft skills are taught and reinforced through formal practical trainings. NYC strives to provide program participants the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a wide variety of professional environments and life circumstances.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Team Member collaborates with the other department staff to complete duties within assigned areas of focus. The Operations department provides support to facilitate programs for Northwest Youth Corps. Areas of focus include the crew vehicles equipment food tools and maintenance shop. A successful candidate will be able to identify and prioritize daily and weekly projects to then carry them to completion with minimal supervision. Operations staff will consistently model safe practices and follow industry standards as well as local operating procedures. This position requires a high level of collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain NYC Vehicles and Facilities The position will mainly be responsible assisting other Operations staff with custodial vehicle maintenance shop and tool repair programs support and the food program.
- Tasks may include tool issuing facilities maintenance custodial duties and loading and unloading supplies food and equipment as well as cleaning sharpening and rehandling tools cleaning vehicles maintaining inventories and databases and coordinating with vendors for
- Collaborate with the Oregon Idaho and Washington Operations Department as well as other departments. There may be the opportunity to travel to other regions.
- Develop and maintain existing relationships with vendors volunteers alumni and
Position Qualifications and Certifications
- Must possess a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record; must be able to pass NYC/ICCs driving test and have the ability to safely navigate congested city streets while towing cargo trailers.
- Must possess computer literacy which includes the ability to use email and
- Interest in developing skills or basic understanding of the principles and practices of:
o Carpentry hand tools power tools vehicle maintenance landscaping painting construction HVAC plumbing or electrical
- The ability to communicate in American Sign Language Spanish and English is highly
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Applicant must be comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments which include but are not limited to weather conditions such as rain wind snow wet cold dry and hot conditions and temperatures that range from as low as 15F to over 100F.
- The noise level in the environment is quiet to PPE is provided and use is required.
- The employee may be required to safely handle hazardous materials such as paint thinner cleaning supplies gasoline and sharp objects such as axes drawknives and chainsaws.
- Work environment: temperature noise level inside or outside or other factors that will affect the persons working conditions while performing the job.
- Physical demands: the physical demands of the job including bending sitting lifting and driving.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation). The employee will be required to climb ladders.
