ME Student Worker (Summer)
Job Summary
Position Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated student to work in the mechanical engineering machine shop over Summer 2026. The student will be responsible for supporting ME staff as they prepare multiple labs for fall operations. The student will become familiar with the operation of several pieces of experimental hardware including the wind tunnel external-flow water tank and HVAC test module. The student will also learn to safely use multiple piece mechanical equipment (e.g. lathes mills drill presses) and will apply this knowledge to machine and manufacture lab specimens used during the course of academic year laboratories. Career Readiness Learning Objectives: Critical Thinking Over the duration of the summer term the student will progressively develop enhanced critical thinking skills. The student will work closely with ME staff members to identify and develop these necessary skills. Career & Self Development Over the duration of the summer term the student will develop implement and perform tasks of increasing complexity under the guidance of ME staff. This will include but is not limited to planning and conducting lab experiments and effectively interacting with fellow students. This position may involve some or all of the following: Take guidance from ME staff member; attend meetings; work independently to achieve goals; other duties as assigned by ME staff within the scope responsibility and requirements of the position Follow laboratory safety protocol; maintain safe laboratory working conditions Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal physical demands but applicants should be able to safely lift 25 pounds and sit and/or stand for extended periods of time; be able to work in a busy environment.
Required Qualifications
This position requires sophomore/junior/senior ME or closely-related major or graduate engineering student.
Preferred Qualifications
Mechanical engineering students are preferred.
