Job Summary

Job Summary
Youth Prevention Specialist(s) will play a key role in the enhancement of the Montrose Centers
Youth Services programs. Youth Prevention Specialist(s) will provide direct services to youth
and young adults ages 7-24 and will also conduct outreach and education activities in
various settings in the Greater Houston Area as determined by grant and Supervisor. Youth
Prevention Specialists will utilize a trauma-informed approach to youth engagement based on
Positive Youth Development principles. The ideal candidate will be creative able to take
initiative possess a high level of integrity and above all have a passion for working with youth
and the LGBTQ community.


A. Responsibilities
1. Understand specific needs of young adults who identify as LGBTQ and serve with affirming
practices boundaries and respect.
2. Provide direct client services to LGBTQ youth in Hatch groups and other settings as
needed. Implement programming as determined with Youth Services Specialist and
Director
3. Conduct outreach and education activities for tMC Youth Services and grant
educational curriculum.
4. Implement grant-approved education curriculum at approved community settings.
5. Track document and submit all data and reports as required. Follow all policy training
and implementation guidelines provided by grant(s).
6. Attend all required meetings for grant(s) and tMC unless approved in advance by Youth
Services Director based on extenuating circumstances.
7. Build and maintain community partnerships in order to a) implement curriculum and b)
foster relationships and connect youth to tMC.
8. Keep strict confidentiality of client information in accordance with the Montrose Center
policies.
9. Be able to communicate with members of the community colleagues and clients
effectively and efficiently.
10. Practice professional boundaries with youth staff and community partners and maintain
positive relationships.
11. Contribute to special activities and events planning as needed to support Youth Services
Specialist and Director.
12. Prepare for attend and actively participate in all required meetings or trainings including
administrative and supervisory.
13. Effectively assess and manage crisis situations that may arise; under direction of Youth
Services Director decide on appropriate response in crisis situations and act in
accordance with standards and laws as indicated.
14. Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends if and as needed.
15. Other duties as assigned.


B. Education Training Skills Knowledge and Abilities
1. Ability to be LGBTQ affirming and develop cultural competency
2. Bachelors degree in human services or related field preferred GED or HS Diploma
required
3. Experience working with youth and young adults and/or the LGBTQ community
preferred
4. Adaptable time management organizational and multitasking capabilities
5. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills positive attitude
6. Technological proficiency
