Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Sr. Regional Design Manager to join its design team. As a Sr. Regional Design Manager you will be part of a global engineering leadership team comprised of highly effective Architects Structural Civil Mechanical Electrical Security and Control Engineers. AWS self-performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects. This unique vantage point allows the Design Managers to maintain a close connection with project details and drive project outcomes. You will have impact on the design direction and ability to improve design delivery for an entire region while establishing design procedures and protocols for the development of future systems. This role is an opportunity to collaborate with many facets of the AWS organization external engineering resources and regulatory agencies. Key job responsibilities
Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent DC designs and maintaining a high level of quality within budget and schedule.
Able to influence internal stakeholders internal customers (operations) and external consultants to address program wide design changes
Manage escalations
identify multi-disciplinary design decisions
Understanding of design development design change management permitting (working with AHJs) and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle
Project management skills (critical path schedule management risk management quality management cost management)
Design consultant management including procurement contracting deliverable management and payments
Effectively and consistently communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners including the creation tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule cost and quality Throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Conversant in Amazon LPs.
Manage competing priorities.
Drive speed quality and simplification by eliminating rework loops reducing and automating manual work through standardization and automation.
Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment.
Travel for site assessments internal design meetings construction review and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%. International travel may be needed.
A day in the life
Leading design team meetings to coordinate cross-disciplinary decisions
Reviewing and approving design documents and changes
Managing consultant deliverables and performance
Responding to technical escalations from various teams
Collaborating with procurement and construction teams on implementation
Coordinating with AHJs for permitting requirements
Tracking project metrics for schedule cost and quality
Creating and updating best practice documentation
Participating in stakeholder meetings
Conducting site assessments and construction reviews
Managing critical path schedules and risk mitigation
Mentoring team members on design standards
Analyzing design optimization opportunities
Reviewing RFIs and submittal responses

- 4 years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
- 5 years of engineering installation or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
- Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical equipment or design related to data center electrical and mechanical topology
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers power generation or oil and gas facilities
- Experience researching new designs technologies and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
- Experience with the design construction operation or maintenance of mission critical facilities especially data centers
- Bachelors degree in Architecture Construction Management Engineering or a related field
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration development and into deployment or mass production
- Experience reading interpreting and creating construction drawings specifications and submittal documents
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
