Job Summary
The Department of Women Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to hire a full-time Visiting Lecturer for the academic year beginning August 2026.
This is a one-year non-renewable visiting appointment.
The Visiting Lecturer will carry duties equivalent to a full-time teaching load which will include three 3-hour courses per semester plus additional service and advising duties. The successful candidate will teach two sections each semester of Intro to Women Gender and Sexuality Studies and one additional course each semester aligned with the departments Politics Track and/or transnational comparative or global feminist and queer studies curricula.
In addition to Intro to WGSS the department seeks a candidate who can teach courses in areas such as feminist and queer politics the state surveillance social class resistance and/or transnational feminist and queer studies. Courses that address these needs include but are not limited to:
- WGSS 2070: Sexuality and the State
- WGSS 3068: Surveillance Technology and Sexuality
- WGSS 4085: Everyday Unruliness: Feminist and Queer Resistance
- WGSS 3700: Gender and Social Class
The Visiting Lecturer may also propose a new course addressing these thematic areas subject to approval through the Colleges curriculum review process.
Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. degree in Women Gender and Sexuality Studies or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate strong preparation for undergraduate teaching across multiple levels and the ability to teach both introductory and upper-level courses in WGSS.
