JOB SUMMARY:Applies basic level knowledge toaccomplishscheduled and unscheduled maintenance on theDistrictvehicle and support equipment fleet based on daily production assignmentswith limited Supervision.
Assistin analyzingautomotive problems andmakesroutine and non-routine repairs and maintenanceon gasdieseland Compressed Natural Gasautomotive andsupportequipment.

Incumbents in this position will be held to the Districts Gold Standard for Customer Service.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Applies basic knowledge to providesystematic maintenance with theFleet Service Supervisorto ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in safe and reliable workingconditioncontributing to the dailyefficiencyserviceand effectiveness of fleet maintenance.
  1. Analyzes and makes repairs and services all District light-duty vehicles and heavy trucks. Provides systematic maintenance of all support equipment.
  1. Assistin performingmajor vehicle repairs and diagnostic procedures using a computer analyzer to detect motor trouble and analyze motor performance on all equipment.
  1. Analyzes and repairs andmaintainsnon-vehicular heavy support equipment such as excavatorsbackhoes etc.
  1. Performs repairs on small engines trailers and gas and diesel welders.
  1. Maintains fleet maintenance work area in compliance with safety requirements and uses tools and equipment in the proper manner.
  1. Orders parts based on troubleshooting and fault isolation to return vehicle and equipment to service.
  1. Tracks material safety and waste-disposal data.
  1. Must be able to safely and responsiblyoperatethe automotive vehicle assigned. Mustmaintainassigned vehicle throughappropriate operatormaintenance and by keepingsaid vehicle clean and neat at all times.
  1. Positionrequires incumbent to respond to accidents and/or breakdowns in the field before during and after regular work hours when needed.
  1. Fills in for the FleetService Supervisorduring periods where theleader is absent.
  1. Othermiscellaneous job-relatedduties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School plustwotofiveyears of experience - or

Two years of college (Associates Degree) plus zero to two years of experience.



ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:

  1. Knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment diagnosis and repairgasolineand diesel fuel.High-level skills in the maintenance and repair of automotive and grounds maintenance equipment and heavy equipment.
  1. Proven skills in operating shop tools and machines.
  1. Alertness and careful attention to all safety standards.
  1. Ability to effectively communicate.
  1. Precisionwithallworkdone whether repairs tovehicles or equipment; accuracy with accompanying paperwork.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Mustpossessand maintain valid Florida drivers licenseand a driving record satisfactory to theDistrictand its insurers.A Commercial Drivers licensed is preferred.
  1. Ability tooperatemachines and equipment used inthe automotive mechanical trade.
  1. Certification tooperateforklift.
  1. Proficiencyinperforming diagnostic procedures using a computer analyzer to detect motor trouble and analyze motor performance on all equipment.
  1. Skills tomaintainand repair vehicles and equipment to include; main and connecting rod bearings clutch plates differentials and transmissions brakes front-end work motor overhauls air conditioning systems.

OTHER FACTORS:

  1. Mustpossessand maintain valid Florida drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to theDistrictand its insurers.A commercial drivers license is preferred.
  1. Maybeto work other than normal business hoursinperformance ofroadsideassistancefor District fleet; may beto perform stand-by shifts on a rotating schedule; may beto work overtime.
  1. Mustbeappropriatelydressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.
  1. Regular attendance is essential.
  1. May beto work overtime with little notice.
  1. Physical Effort:Requiresbending stooping crawlingclimbingand moderate lifting. Must be capable of working from ladders and elevated areas.
  1. Working Conditions and Hazards:Extreme working conditions: restricted movement dirty environment or contamination intense noise hazardous materials; lifts or carries heavy objects.Works inside and outside. Exposed to rain and seasonal weather extremes. Must be able to work with power tools and other hazardous equipment.
  1. DRUG TESTING FOR ILLEGAL DRUGS:Employeesin this classification will be subject to undergo testing for illegal drugsin accordance withDOT49 CFRPart 40.
