Focus of the Role

The Network Senior Engineer provides advanced technical leadership and operational support for NTU Device hardware Network Integration and Element Manager platform. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability scalability and performance of Telstras network infrastructure through expert-level configuration comprehensive testing programs authoring detailed design documents defect resolution and vendor collaboration.

How the role contributes to business strategy

Effectively and efficiently support critical projects with specific outcomes via a program of work within the Fixed Engineering with a strong focus on the NTU hardware.

The measurable deliverables and outcomes of this role will be the successful integration and delivery of an NTU solution within the Ethernet Packet mission.

Key Accountabilities:

• Work independently to deliver assigned engineering outcomes end-to-end
• Drive work plans and day-to-day decisions aligned to defined mission goals and delivery milestones
• Provide technical leadership for a small team setting direction and unblocking delivery
• Mentor engineers through coaching technical review and pairing to uplift capability and consistency
• Define and maintain engineering standards (design patterns configuration baselines testing practices and quality gates)
• Own technical decision-making including trade-offs across reliability scalability performance and operational supportability
• Produce clear high-quality technical designs that are reviewable traceable and implementation-ready
• Author and maintain Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for repeatable change execution
• Create and improve operational runbooks (fault isolation steps recovery actions and escalation pathways)
• Apply deep networking expertise to troubleshoot complex L2/L3 issues and improve network outcomes
• Champion an automation mindset by identifying repetitive work and creating reusable scripts checks and workflows
• Communicate technical context and decisions clearly in writing for engineers operations and stakeholders
• Operate as a senior hands-on engineer combining leadership with practical delivery and continuous improvement

Essential Technical Skills:

• 510 years experience in telecommunications carrier or large enterprise network environments
• Experience working within a telecommunications carrier (Telstra preferred)
• Deep L2/L3 networking expertise at CCNP (or equivalent) level
• Strong Linux operating system proficiency
• Network testing experience using IXIA (or equivalent)
• Proven experience writing and maintaining automation and tooling
• Strong scripting skills in Python
• Strong scripting skills in Bash
• Working knowledge of SQL for querying and automation support
• Exposure to or hands-on experience building AI-assisted solutions or AI agents
• Demonstrated ability to apply automation/AI to improve engineering and operational workflows.

Highly desirable skills:

• Experience with RAD or ADTRAN platforms is desirable but not essential.
