Job Summary
The Room Service Assistant supports patient-centered meal service by assisting patients with menu selections that align with prescribed diet orders and individual nutritional needs. This role organizes menus tally sheets and related documentation to support accurate efficient meal production and delivery. Working collaboratively with Clinical Dietitians and the Clinical Nutrition Manager (CNM) the assistant helps support clinical nutrition tasks and contributes to consistent high-quality nutritional care. As part of a supportive service-oriented team this position may provide shift supervision in the absence of management and demonstrates cultural sensitivity and respect for the diverse patient populations served.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with selecting meals that align with prescribed diet orders ensuring accuracy and adherence to nutritional guidelines.
- Organize and maintain menus tally sheets and daily meal service documentation to support efficient foodservice operations.
- Collaborate with Clinical Dietitians and the CNM to support clinical nutrition tasks and ensure patients receive appropriate dietary guidance.
- Provide shift supervision as needed offering direction to staff to maintain smooth workflow and service quality.
- Communicate effectively with patients families and staff to provide exceptional customer service and respond to dietary questions or concerns.
- Participate in departmental safety sanitation and quality initiatives to support a consistent and patient-focused meal service experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- None required
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Hospital or previous food service experience is desired.
- Therapeutic diet/MNT knowledge is preferred.
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Flexible to changing work environment and ability to function well under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Physical Requirements:
The Room Service Assistant frequently stands walks bends and reaches during meal service activities and while assisting patients. The role may require lifting carrying or transporting menus trays or supplies involving light to moderate physical exertion. Adequate vision hearing manual dexterity and communication skills are essential for accurately recording selections navigating patient care areas and interacting effectively with residents and staff.
Environmental Requirements:
This position works within patient care areas and foodservice environments with exposure to temperature variations meal transport equipment and cleaning agents. The role involves frequent interruptions and the need to manage multiple priorities during peak meal service periods. Strict adherence to infection-control practices food-safety guidelines and PPE requirements is essential to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for patients visitors and staff.
