Job Summary

Matrix Providers is hiring a Psychiatric Technician to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families Walter Reed National Military Center in Bethesda MD.

  • Employment Status: Fulltime- Coverage position
  • Compensation: This is an hourly position.
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week
    • Monday - Friday (between the hours of 6:45AM and 5PM)
    • Scheduled 8.5 hours per day 8 hours with 30 uncompensated lunch break

Requirements: The Psychiatric Technician must have and meet the following:

  • Degree: Certificate
  • Possess a current nationally recognized certification as a Psychiatric Technician such as the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians AND 12 months full time experience within the past 36 months as a psychiatric technician in an inpatient psychiatric substance abuse residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) OR
  • Possess a certification as a behavioral health tech through a branch of the United States Military AND 12 months full time experience within the past 36 months as a psychiatric technician in an inpatient psychiatric substance abuse residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) OR
  • Have an associate degree in a behavioral health related field related field AND 12 months full time experience within the past 36 months as a psychiatric technician in an inpatient psychiatric substance abuse residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) OR
  • Have a minimum of 24 months within the past 36 months as a psychiatric technician in an inpatient psychiatric substance abuse residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Job Summary:

  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment in providing patient care.
  • Provides direct and indirect care services to patients in psychiatric inpatient at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC).
  • Assists and participates in planning and evaluation of patient needs and in providing a safe and therapeutic environment. Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in motivating patients and redirecting their behavior toward treatment plan goals.
  • Serves as an intake worker for crisis evaluation and/ or routine intake evaluation. Facilitates intake and triage of patients receiving phone calls and/ or prospective patients in person to obtain demographic historical and clinical information. Assess patients mental status to distinguish type of case and to discriminate between routine complex and/ or emergency cases. Assists patients in resolving problems venting feelings and expressing past history. Observes for thought content paranoiac homicidal or suicidal thoughts inappropriate behavior or behavioral changes and reaction to medications.
  • Compiles cumulative demographic historical and diagnostic test data/ information and compares to established norms.
  • Completes written documentation and data entry into the electronic medical record (EMR) to record patient behaviors vital signs and observations in accordance with the hospital and program standards. Reports unusual patient behavior physical symptoms or other pertinent observations to registered nurse of licensed independent provider (LIP).
  • Processes patients for admission searching belongings for contraband weapons drugs or alcohol. Obtains inpatient/ outpatient records preparing patient chart with proper forms; assigns bed location. Performs crisis stabilization for agitated disoriented and/ or combative high-risk patients; participates as appropriate with all restraining measures.
