Job Summary:
To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Must be in good physical condition
- Must be able to lift materials or equipment up to fifty pounds
- Must be able to read and understand important information that may pertain to chemicals electricity or other possible hazards
- Previous experience in a custodial supervisory position preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively with administrators teachers and students
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications the District Administration may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities:
- Helps in the selection assignment scheduling and training of members of the custodial staff
- Plans and oversees all cleaning and minor repair work maintaining a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency
- Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies tools and equipment
- Evaluates the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis
- Strives constantly to promote the safety health and comfort of the students and employees
- Establishes and supervises summer cleaning programs and schedules
- Buffs hallway floors as needed
- Vacuums offices daily as needed
- Mops cafeteria floor daily
- Removes garbage from the cafeteria
- Keeps building and premises including sidewalks driveways and social areas neat and clean at all times
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are working properly
- Cleans corridors each morning and during the day when their condition requires it
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish/trash
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
- Makes such minor building repairs as employee is capable of
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the principal
- Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance is required by the principal
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off
- Keeps an inventory of supplies equipment and fuel on hand and requisitions such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance upkeep and repair
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash rubbish and waste
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition
- Inspects fire extinguishers monthly and signifies by initializing
- Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
