Teacher Leadership Specialist
Job Description:
The Teacher Leadership Specialist (TLS) is an extension of the Curriculum and Instruction Department and serves as a liaison to the school faculty. It is the responsibility of the TLS to work with district and school personnel to facilitate school state and district initiatives including but not limited to attending and/or delivering professional development modeling and observing classroom instruction and providing feedback to teachers. The position entails proven excellence as a classroom teacher and curriculum leader with exemplary skills in organizing developing implementing and assessing instructional strategies to improve academic achievement in core content areas problem solving skills and use of modern technology for all students in the addition this person must have earned and strived to maintain the trust of the staff members while working as a member of the district curriculum team.
School and District Expectations:
The TLS will be assigned to a school based on the needs of the district. The TLS will be evaluated by the Principal.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A current North Carolina teaching license
- Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Recognition by colleagues and community as outstanding classroom teacher leader
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills
- Strong personal literacy skills inclusive of oral and written communication
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and presentation skills
- Liaison between assigned school and Curriculum & Instruction Department
- Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
- Ability to conduct professional development for teachers and administrators at the local and state levels
- Experience modeling and observing classroom instruction; providing feedback to teachers
- Ability to disaggregate interpret analyze and maintain assessment data
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including computers copiers SMARTBoards document cameras etc. to increase the use of technology within instructional settings
Salary: According to North Carolina Salary Schedule for Teachers (10-month position)
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Create a professional development plan to improve student achievement and professional growth
- Model enthusiasm commitment and intensity for state district and school initiatives
- Attend district and state instructional meetings
- Ensure effective communication with the principal teachers and district team.
- Keep abreast of research-based instructional strategies by attending professional development sessions and reading professional educational research
- Review and revise district pacing guides
- Provide support to teachers through planning coaching and modeling
- Visit classrooms daily to support teachers in their efforts to implement school state and district initiatives
- Demonstrate strategies that teachers can implement to improve academic achievement
- Observe and problem solve with teachers on how to overcome student learning obstacles
- Organize and monitor the assessment processes and data analysis used to determine student performance and instructional grouping across content areas
- Assist teachers with analysis and instructional use of student formative and summative data
- Facilitate and/or participate in weekly grade level and/or PLC meetings focusing on effective instruction and student achievement
- Assists with the school testing program for local state and federal testing as directed by the HPS Director of Accountability
- Serve as eLeader and collaborate with the Instructional Technology Specialist
