Job Summary

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of District-Wide Dual Enrollment

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The College Course-Taking Coordinator resides in the Office of College Career & Life Readiness (CCLR) of the Boston Public Schools reporting to the Assistant Director of District-Wide Dual Enrollment. The College Course-Taking Coordinator will work to strengthen and expand equitable access to and success in college course-taking for all secondary school students; in doing so advancing CCLRs strategic plan to ensure that each BPS student graduates fully prepared to achieve success in college career and life as they define it.

The College Course-Taking Coordinator will develop enhance and support systems to more effectively implement BPSs Dual Enrollment Grades & Credit Earnings Circular. They will contribute to strengthening and creating conditions for success for several critical college course-taking projects including coursework and credit transferability landscape analysis curricular alignment and summer dual enrollment implementation. The College Course-Taking Coordinator will also support school-based teams by creating and enhancing technical and adaptive assistance tools. This is a grant funded term limited (two year) managerial position.

Systems Improvement & Organizational Development:

  • In partnership with the Assistant Director of District-Wide Dual Enrollment lead the scaled implementation and ongoing monitoring of the Dual Enrollment Grades & Credit Earnings Circular
  • Develop new measurably improve and execute existing cyclical systems that support equitable access to high quality district-wide college course-taking. This includes but is not limited to:
    • A semesterly transcript audit protocol to monitor the accurate transcription of college coursework on BPS student records;
    • The process for new college course requests review approval and publication on the BPS course catalog;
    • Process to perform ongoing dual enrollment catalog maintenance to ensure that all courses are active accurate and aligned with proper MassCore status;
    • The process for roster and grade collection from college partners and distribution to secondary schools
    • Summer Dual Enrollment management
  • Lead the strategy to improve transparency across secondary and postsecondary stakeholders as it relates to how courses are represented in the course catalog

Program Enhancements:

  • Conduct a landscape analysis of dual enrollment course offerings and present recommendations to strengthen alignment with district priorities for advanced coursework
  • Collect and analyze data on credit transferability and present recommendations to improve postsecondary transition advising for students with dual enrollment credit
  • Co-facilitate curricular alignment activities with the Office of Teaching & Learning and college faculty teams to review K-12 MassCore frameworks and institutional learning standards develop curricular coherence and reach agreements on the competencies and practices for high-quality learning in each coursewith the goal of increasing MassCore core offerings
  • Perform the responsibilities of a district-wide registrar for BPSs Summer Dual Enrollment summer school including scheduling courses and grade posting
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of District-Wide Dual Enrollment work to scale and continuously improve the BPS & RCC Early College Consortium to expand access for Multilingual Learners currently underrepresented in Early College Pathways statewide

School-Based Technical & Adaptive Assistance:

  • Strengthen training and technical assistance tools to assist practitioners to comply with the Dual Enrollment Grades & Credit Earnings Circular
  • Vision and build a centralized platform to house college course-taking resources to improve clarity accessibility and ease of navigation
  • Develop student and family-facing awareness and outreach strategy to increase participation in dual enrollment opportunities for students historically underrepresented in higher education
  • Codify scalable tools frameworks and implementation strategies for effective high-quality college course-taking consortia models

College Course-Taking Team Support:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Early College and Assistant Director of District-Wide Dual Enrollment regularly coordinate communicate and collaborate with key internal and external college course-taking stakeholders on mutually beneficial projects: Office of Teaching & Learning Office of Instructional and Information Technology Office of Data & Accountability Office of Multilingual & Multicultural Education Office of Specialized Services secondary school counselors and school counseling leadership and institutes of higher education partners
  • Effectively manage semesterly college course-taking processes including course approvals and roster and grade submissions
  • Prepare presentations spreadsheets and reports related to participation and success in college course taking to assist with targeted school-based technical assistance

Deliverables:

  • Codify protocols for effective implementation and compliance monitoring of the Dual Enrollment Grades & Credit Earnings Circular that increases current efficiencies by 50%
  • Improved college course-taking collateral resources and tools that are accessible to students and families and school and district teams
  • Successful transition of BPS Summer Dual Enrollment management to school-based implementation by 2028
  • Advanced curricular alignment within dual enrollment coursework resulting in an increase in MassCore core offerings
  • High-quality relevant recommendations for continued enhancements to college course-taking offerings advising strategies and systems that are aligned with district priorities for advanced coursework

QUALIFICATIONS - Required:

  • A Bachelors Degree required
  • An ability to articulate a commitment to equity-focused work and the role advanced coursework plays in closing opportunity and achievement gaps
  • Clear evidence of leadership in eliminating racial opportunity and achievement gaps and the ability to examine systems policies and programs through a racial equity lens
  • Understanding of the Boston Public Schools the local stakeholder community and related federal and state educational policies
  • Understanding of current Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Standards and MassCore graduation requirements
  • Understanding of and experience with meeting the needs of students and families of varying socioeconomic backgrounds and historically marginalized populations to support postsecondary opportunities
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and interpersonal attributes necessary to work effectively with diverse cross-functional groups of students families teachers administrators and external partners and professionally represent division to partners outside of BPS
  • Experience designing and/or implementing continuous improvement cycles
  • Proactive creative and tenacious problem-solver with experience in organizing others to accomplish projects
  • Able to work independently employing impeccable judgment discretion and integrity
  • Attention to detail accuracy and ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a high-paced environment while meeting deadlines to successfully achieve goals
  • Strong data literacy including the ability to analyze student-level or implementation data and apply findings to improve practice
  • Effective presentation skills and can prepare clear materials and facilitate group meetings.
  • Technological proficiency including the ability to create user-friendly systems tools and communications
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.
  • A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education.

QUALIFICATIONS - Preferred:

  • Experience administering or implementing successful dual enrollment or Early College programs in Boston Public Schools or in similar districts
  • Understanding of governing policies and practices in higher education including but not limited to semester timelines grading policies new course development and awarding of credit
  • Experience in a college access/success program and demonstrated understanding of proven strategies to increase postsecondary success for first generation and historically underrepresented students
  • Experience with curricular development and/or alignment
