Position Title: Maintenance/Construction Technician III
General Description: The Richmond County Schools maintenance/construction technician III under the authority of the director of maintenance is responsible for performing skilled work in the maintenance repair and/or construction of RCS facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
Perform skilled work in the preventive maintenance repair and/or construction of facilities to include carpentry plumbing electrical and HVAC.
Perform maintenance and minor repairs on custodial and lawn equipment as needed.
Assist other maintenance personnel with the completion of work orders.
Assist with the pickup and delivery of surplus materials/equipment to the warehouse and/or other designated school locations.
Assist with lawn maintenance throughout district as needed.
Respond to after-hours emergencies as requested.
Willingness to accept and fulfill additional assignments as requested by immediate supervisor or maintenance director.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
Must be able to:
walk lift reach stoop stand grasp balance climb kneel and crouch
work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes noise vibrations job hazards and atmospheric conditions
work at heights at or above 20 feet
safely use machines hand tools and other job specific equipment and tools
determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
observe general surroundings and activities
safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Considerable knowledge of the methods practices and materials used in general maintenance and repair buildings.
Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools required in various technically complex trades (i.e. scissor lift forklift aerial boom lift tractor and attachments various power tools and lawn equipment)
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle when towing a trailer or heavy equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED required. Two years of progressive experience in one or more technical trade areas (carpentry electrical plumbing heating and air small engine repair). Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license with acceptable driving record.
