What does a Farm Technician do
The Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) is seeking a dedicated Farm Technician to oversee the daily operations of our Mid-Ohio this role you will utilize your skills to operate equipment and hand tools while performing essential tasks such as seeding planting irrigating fertilizing weeding and maintaining crops. You will manage our commercial greenhouses and contribute to the innovative vertical tower growing systems.
Key responsibilities include executing crop production across various environments maintaining greenhouse equipment and ensuring optimal plant health through meticulous monitoring. You will also train and coordinate volunteers while keeping accurate records of farm activities and adhering to food safety standards. By supporting seasonal crop planning and engaging in educational programming you will serve as an ambassador for MOFC connecting the community to sustainable food systems and regenerative agriculture practices.

Requirements for this Farm Technician job
To thrive as a Farm Technician at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective candidates should possess a High School Diploma or GED with a preference for those holding a college degree in agriculture or equivalent professional experience. A valid Drivers License is essential along with at least 1-2 years of hands-on farming experience in either a professional or collegiate environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong knowledge of vegetable and horticultural concepts and basic growing methods. Key competencies include the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an emphasis on maintaining quality and efficiency.
Excellent verbal communication skills are necessary for effectively giving and following directions while organizational skills will help prioritize tasks and make informed decisions. A passion for learning and a willingness to innovate are critical alongside proficiency in Microsoft programs. Candidates should be prepared for outdoor labor in varying weather conditions as well as physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will be working outdoors in an urban farm setting. This will require a person to work in all weather conditions performing manual labor. Frequent standing walking bending crouching and lifting required. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Daily physical field work includes greenhouse seeding planting row-covering fertilizing weeding harvesting washing and packing of produce. Occasional weekend hours will be required.
