Job Summary

THIS POSITION IS FOR UPPERCLASSMEN ONLY.

FRESHMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENT POSITIONS.

Expected hours of work per week: 5 - 15

Work Location & Hours: The Math Center Mills 381 9 am - 5 pm 7 pm - 11 pm

Qualifications for Position:

Demonstrated excellence in math courses with completion of Calc III preferred
Math Major preparing to teach secondary-school math preferred
Good communication skills in general and demonstrated ability to communicate math in particular
A delight in mathematics
Enthusiastic willingness to engage with others and to initiate such engagement
Demonstrated dependability
Ability to work some (of Mon - Thurs) evenings until 11 pm
Ability to tutor Statistics Differential Equations Linear Algebra or Math for Educators is a bonus

Expected Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow routines for opening closing and maintaining the Math Center
Greet students as they enter or leave the Math Center
Tutor students in a variety of math courses
Review course material (including working homework problems) as necessary to be prepared to answer student questions and to gain more personal insight into the material

Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers)

Career & Self-Development by increasing understanding of concepts and problem-solving skills in mathematics.
Communicate clearly mathematical concepts and skills.
Critical Thinking to logically explain concepts and problem-solutions and clearly answer questions
