Job Summary
- Location: 1 Medical Center Blvd Winston-Salem NC 27157
- Facility Details:
- 885 licensed beds
- Level 1 Trauma Center
- Academic medical/teaching hospital
- Chest Pain Center & Stroke Center accreditation
- Unit Information:
- 22-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
- Average census: 20 patients/day
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience required
- First-time travelers accepted (must have CVICU experience)
- Patient Population:
- Surgical and medical cardiac critical care
- Common diagnoses: Post-op CABG valve repair/replacement Impella IABP thoracic aortic aneurysm etc.
- Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:2
- CNA: 1:20
- Licensure/Certifications Required:
- BLS ACLS NIHSS (CCRN preferred)
- Required Skills:
- Experience with Epic (preferred)
- Post-cardiac assessment
- Care for circulatory support devices (IABP Impella LVAD ECMO)
- Titration of vasoactive/antiarrhythmic medications
- Cardiac waveform interpretation hemodynamic monitoring
- Department Support:
- CNA for ADLs vitals blood sugar and transport
- Receptionist (24/7)
- Charge nurse (often in assignment)
- Nurse-drawn phlebotomy
- 24/7 Respiratory Therapist and Intensivist
- Technology/Equipment Used:
- EMR: Epic
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Phillips
- Unit specific: CRRT (NxStage)
- Floating:
- May float to other critical care units (PCU 1:3 MS 1:4)
- Orientation:
- One week general orientation
- 2-3 days unit-specific orientation
