Position Title: Athletic Administrator High School
Department: Division of Instruction
Reports To: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting the principal in the administration of the total school program with a specific focus on athletics administration with no coaching duties. Assists the principal in providing leadership in carrying out the goals and objectives of the School District and administering and supervising school programs toward the fullest possible development of each student. Under general supervision assists in ensuring that the districts vision mission and goals are achieved by maintaining organizing and administering the overall program of interscholastic athletics including intramural produce teams that will be competitive in their classification and conference; to primarily be responsible for the welfare and safety of all students who are participating in athletics; to plan organize coordinate and supervise programs in interscholastic athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to serve as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
- Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance and provides supervision for students on campus during extra-curricular activities in parking lots cafeteria restrooms athletic events and assemblies to include the implementation of a duty roster.
- Assists in supervising and managing building staff staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers including selecting assigning training and evaluating all coaching personnel.
- Assumes responsibility for athletic eligibility of participants according to SCHSL guidelines and bylaws.
- Represents the school principal athletes and coaches in matters of interscholastic athletics.
- Coordinates the athletic program assists and advises the coaches and participants of the various sports. He/she must be certain that all coaches fully understand the schools philosophy objectives and policies.
- Manages athletic events to include the folllowing:
- Schedules and manages facilities for all teams (practice and play) for interscholastic activities.
- Schedules the teams for interscholastic competitions. A coach may develop his/her own schedule with the approval of the Athletic Director.
- Contracts officials for all home contests and arranges transportation for away contests.
- Assumes responsibility for site preparation housing the opposing team ticket sales police protection passes concessions programs halftime activities parking publicity and reporting the score and results of home events.
- Develops and administers the athletic budget.
- Assumes the responsibility for the inventory of athletic equipment and supplies.
- Recommends approval of athletic purchases to the principal.
- Assists with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule and assigning teachers.
- Assists in supervising and coordinating all student activity programs.
- Assists in conducting orientation for new coaches.
- Organizes and prioritizes time to maintain visibility and accessibility on school grounds and/or school events.
- Participates in graduation activities where appropriate.
- Participates in professional learning as scheduled by the principal or district especially related to athletic operations.
- Maintains relationship with parents and community.
- Responsible for knowing and ensuring adherence to the South Carolina High School League rules and regulations and Aiken County School District policies regarding interscholastic athletics.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Masters Degree in Education and minimum three (3) years of experience in teaching.
Coaching experience at the high school level.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
Valid South Carolina Teaching License in one of the following areas:
Secondary Principal (Tier 1 or 2)
Secondary Supervisor
Athletic Director endorsement
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises employees in the High School as directed by the school principal.
Manages subordinate coaches in the Athletic Department. Is responsible for the overall direction coordination and evaluation of these coaches.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the districts policies and applicable laws.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from community regulatory agencies or members of staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of assessment data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to quickly assess employee departmental and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students parents and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. The position requires meeting deadlines and interacting with teachers administrators parents and community members.
