Position Overview
St. Annes-Belfield a PS - 12 school serving 900 students in Charlottesville Virginia is seeking an Assistant Varsity Swimming Coach for the 2026-2027 school year to build upon its strong legacy and thriving sports program. Reporting to the Athletic Director and working with the Head Coach and team of assistant coaches the successful candidate is passionate about the role that swimming can have in developing the character of student-athletes and furthering the Schools mission. The assistant coach subscribes to the philosophy that the swimming program must work alongside other sports as a complement to the entire Saints athletic department. This position would take place during the Winter Athletics season which goes from November through February.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supporting our Varsity Head Coach and working with our student athletes in all areas of our swim program.
- Determining individual swimmer abilities strengths and goals and factoring these into the season competitions and strategy sessions.
- Fostering outstanding sportsmanship in all team players and in all phases of athletic participation.
- Managing and supervising athletic activities meets and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork discipline and respect.
- Ensuring that all swimming coaches work together toward a common goal.
- Encouraging swimmers to engage in other Saints sports programs.
- Using a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in swimming.
- Submitting meet entries using SwimCloud or Hy-Tek Team Manager software.
- Establishing and maintaining open communication with parents students and director of athletics.
- Taking all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes equipment materials and facilities.
- Working with the athletic department staff to be sure all equipment is in good and safe working order maintaining inventory of all swimming equipment.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Swimming experience preferred.
- Passion for swimming and comprehensive in-depth knowledge of the sport.
- Knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of VISAA & NFHS rules that apply to swimming.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct relate to teach and supervise student-athletes in and out of the pool.
- Strong communication management motivational interpersonal and strategizing skills.
- Self-starter with a positive attitude.
- Ability to utilize technology is required.
- Ability to communicate in spoken and written word.
- Embraces a high level of accountability.
- Ability to assess players and coaches effectively.
- Professionally calm and motivationally intense.
- A progressive thinker but a believer in planning and preparation.
- Cares about character team and staff.
- Able to function at a high capacity in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to be consistent in decision making is a premium.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to game and equipment setup.
