Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer to lead safety analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards for automotive electronic systems. This role is critical in evaluating system safety performing detailed reliability analyses and supporting the development of safety-compliant designs.
You will work cross-functionally with internal teams and suppliers to assess safety mechanisms validate system architectures and ensure compliance with target ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) ratings.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret custom mission profiles and accurately compute component FIT (Failure in Time) rates
- Perform FMEDA (Failure Modes Effects and Diagnostic Analysis) to evaluate hardware safety performance
- Coordinate with suppliers to obtain accurate and detailed component reliability data
2. Fault Analysis & Functional Safety
- Develop and analyze:
- FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)
- DFA (Dependent Failure Analysis)
- PMHF (Probabilistic Metric for Hardware Failure)
- Ensure safety goals and hardware metrics align with functional safety requirements
- Apply best practices in functional safety to support robust system design
3. Safety Tools & Compliance
- Utilize industry-standard tools such as Ansys Medini and Isographfor:
- FMEDA execution
- Fault Tree Analysis
- Assess safety mechanisms and evaluate safety metrics to ensure compliance with target ASIL ratings
- Support alignment with recognized safety standards (e.g. ISO 26262 IEC 61508)
4. Verification & Validation
- Develop and define test case specifications for safety requirements
- Support verification activities to ensure safety mechanisms perform as intended
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate system-level safety performance
Core Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Electronic Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 5 years of experience in the automotive industry (OEM or Tier 1 preferred) within the EE domain
- 3 years of experience developing safety-related systems compliant with:
- ISO 26262
- IEC 61508 or equivalent functional safety standards
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity
Technical Expertise
- Proven experience performing FMEDA including FIT rate calculation and mission profile interpretation
- Strong understanding of:
- ASIL classification and safety metrics
- Automotive electrical/electronic systems and control strategies
- Hands-on experience with safety analysis tools such as:
- Ansys Medini
- Isograph
Functional Safety & Analysis Skills
- Expertise in:
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA)
- Probabilistic Metric for Hardware Failure (PMHF)
- Ability to evaluate and validate safety mechanisms within complex systems
- Experience working with suppliers on reliability and safety data
