QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid South Dakota teaching certification with Special Education endorsement
- Bachelors degree in Special Education K-12
- Knowledge of IEP development and special education compliance
- Prefer at least three (3) years of successful teaching experience in special education
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The High School Special Education teacher will provide specialized instruction and support for high school students with disabilities to promote academic achievement independence and post-secondary readiness. The teacher delivers individualized and small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals implements appropriate supports and accommodations and fosters the development of social-emotional and functional skills. The teacher serves as an IEP case manager collaborates with staff and families and creates a structured supportive learning environment that promotes student growth and success.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct instruction aligned with grade-level standards and individual student needs
- Adapt curriculum materials and assessments to ensure access to learning
- Support students in developing academic social-emotional and transition skills
- Facilitate student participation in general education settings with appropriate supports
- Serve as IEP case manager for assigned students
- Develop implement and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress toward goals
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and records
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and programming
- Participate in IEP meetings team meetings and building-level problem-solving teams
- Implement behavior support plans and classroom management strategies
- Teach and reinforce self-regulation organization and social skills
- Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes positive student behavior
- Support students in developing post-secondary goals related to employment education and independent living
- Collaborate with families and community agencies to support transition planning
- Incorporate functional and career readiness skills into instruction
- Participate in professional development and continuous improvement efforts
- Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by theDirector of Student Services Building Principal and/orSuperintendent.
