Description

The Health Informatics Institute (HII) at USF is comprised of approximately 150 members consisting of biostatisticians and bioinformaticians; epidemiologists; software data and systems engineers; solution and data architects; laboratory and clinical research administrators; and administrative staff. Established in 2004 as the Pediatric Epidemiology Center the annual budget of the institute currently exceeds $50 million primarily in NIH funding. Members are engaged in research focused on the prevention of diabetes and other autoimmune diseases cancer prevention and control genetic disorders and an expanding list of rare diseases.

The Health Informatics Institute is currently looking for a temporary/OPS Diabetes Technologist Specialist. This individual will serve as an expert resource for diabetes technologies to providers clinic staff and patients.

Working title: Diabetes Technology Specialist



Responsibilities

Serves as an expert resource for diabetes technologies to providers clinic staff and patients. Teaches advanced device training to patients. Assists patients with developing individualized diabetes management plans utilizing Automated Insulin Delivery systems. Has experience interpreting device reports and using this information to develop individualized teaching plans for patients

Documents education training and updates in the patient record. Communicates all activities with patients providers.

Maintains pump training room and sample pump and sensor supplies. Disposes expired supplies or labels them For Training Only. Provides real-time support to clinic staff for in-clinic device uploading. Assists patients with sharing device data with personal support team and our Center.

Monitors and responds to in-basket tasks and patient communications regarding diabetes technologies excluding prescriptions / orders and insurance concerns.

Participates in Diabetes Center staff meetings and Diabetes Care Conferences to plan evaluate and improve our diabetes patient services



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelors degree in Nursing Nutrition Dietetics Health Education Public Health or other related health field with at least one year of experience in a professional training position; or an Associates degree in Nursing and licensure as a Registered Nurse with at least three years of experience in a professional training position.

This position requires active licensure as a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist certification and a minimum of three years experience as a professional certified device trainer in Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems.

Certain grants and programs have specific education and/or certification requirements specific to the subject matter of the program area (i.e. Certified Diabetes Educator -CDE; CPR; etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Public Health Education or any of the above-listed degree fields is preferred.
Experienced certified pump trainer on all insulin pumps. Certified Diabetes device trainer for minimum of 3 years.
