Job Summary
The Costume Supervisor oversees the operation of the costume shop and wardrobe staff.
The Chautauqua Theater Company summer season will consist of fully produced productions as well as several new play workshops/readings. To learn more about the season and the company please visit . Compensation for this salaried position starts at $1200/week for up to 13 weeks (starting in June).â
Pre-season: Part-time work will be remote and begins in early January.âCompensation for the pre-season work will be $30.00/Hour.â Chautauqua Theater Company also provides up to $250 in travel reimbursement with receipts provided.

About Your Work Day
- Oversees the management of the costume shop and wardrobe departments.
- Responsible for the safe construction of costumes.
- Manages the costume shop budgets.
- Will build the Costume Shop schedule.
- Responsible for the acquisition of materials.
- Attends production meetings designer runs technical rehearsals.
- Works closely with directors production manager designers design fellows and all department heads.
- Coordinate fittings with the production stage manager designers design fellow and shop foreman.
- Oversees the costume load-in and strike.
- Coordinating proper dry cleaning of costumes
- Manages the return of any items rented.

About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules full and part-time for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings weekends and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
A typical work week is 5-6 days averaging 40-50 hours per week once on the grounds. Scheduled hours will include evenings weekends and holidays based on business needs.
About Living on the Grounds
Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on our grounds or assist you with locating nearby housing arrangements for select opportunities based on business needs. Housing is not an option for many positions and may be of a cost to you. Candidates should assume there are no employer-provided or employer-assisted housing options available for this position unless it is otherwise stated.
This position offers employer-provided housing and parking. Housing includes a private bedroom and shared living space. Residency starts in early June and ends mid-to-late August.
