Job Summary
Speech - Language Pathologists (SLPs) work on a team of speech-language pathologists who will share responsibilities for supporting all KIPP NYC schools based on the needs of their respective students. The Speech - Language Pathologist will provide preventative and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language speech voice and fluency. The SLPs work will have a heavy emphasis on working with non-mandated students identified through screening as having a speech or language delay that impacts academics as part of a Response to Intervention model.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Provide speech-language therapy according to student needs to meet IEP mandates in individual group and push-in sessions
- Flexible and creatively implement therapeutic services using evidence-based practices
- Address the needs of students beginning to struggle through a Response to an Intervention model
- Minimum of 3 groups of Kindergarten RtI focusing on phonological awareness (4-6 students each)
- Provide RtI support to 1st-grade students through differentiation of material and small group interventions
- Individual or group sessions RtI support at Middle School (equivalent to 1/2 day of service per week)
- Individual/group sessions for articulation and fluency (any grade level)
- Conduct speech and language screenings of all kindergarten students
- Offer support to our students of all age ranges and from heterogeneous and various linguistic backgrounds
- Participate in and lead professional development with general education teachers learning specialists administrators and your fellow KIPP NYC speech-language pathologists.
- Coach contracted speech-language pathologists in their work with students receiving IEP-mandated speech-language therapy. Collaborate with contracted therapists through weekly check-ins and quarterly observations/coaching.
- Provide consultation for fellow speech-language pathologists on the KIPP NYC team and attend regional SLP meetings
- Provide professional development or consultation services for classroom teachers
- Write annual IEP reports: students present level of performance goals and recommendations
- Provide speech and language interim and/or baseline assessments
- Opportunity to supervise graduate student interns
- Communicate student progress and carry-over techniques to parents and families
- Participate in Child Study Teams
- Function as an integrated member of the KIPP school community
- Support with general school operations including:
- Arrival lunch recess and late student support
- Update bulletin boards/student work monthly
- Maintain a clean and organized environment
- Attend/participate in report card nights
- Attend/participate in all staff events
Qualifications :
- Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest grit hope love social intelligence gratitude and a sense of humor.
- At least two years of direct experience with K-8 students is strongly preferred
- New York State certification in the appropriate area
- A passion for being part of a team-oriented mission-driven school culture

- Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students within our KIPP NYC communities

Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70829 - $136704. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role NYS initial or professional certification and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidates years of experience certification and longevity at the point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.
