Application & Data Architect (DV Security Clearance)

Position Description:

As an Application and Data Architect within our Defence business unit you will help shape secure resilient solutions that underpin complex transformation programmes. Working within a collaborative Joint Design Team you will lead the design and assurance of applications operating in highly secure environments ensuring they meet the highest standards of security compliance and performance. Due to the secure nature of the programme you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This position requires a full time onsite presence.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

In this role you will shape the architecture of secure applications and data platforms that support Defence programmes operating in controlled environments. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary Joint Design Team leading the design and assessment of solutions that meet strict security compliance and operational requirements. By collaborating closely with engineers architects and client stakeholders you will guide technical decisions ensure architectural integrity and help translate complex requirements into practical high-assurance solutions.

You will take ownership of architectural assessments and solution design supporting projects throughout their lifecycle from concept and technical assurance through to deployment and service transition. Working within a strong engineering community you will help teams adopt secure design principles modern delivery approaches and robust architectural practices while ensuring solutions remain scalable resilient and aligned with Defence standards.

Key responsibilities

Lead & Architect secure-by-design application and data architectures for Defence programmes

Assess & Assure applications operating in secure environments through technical and architectural assessments

Design & Secure resilient applications and audit solutions aligned with Defence security standards and compliance requirements

Collaborate & Guide multidisciplinary teams architects engineers and client stakeholders to shape effective technical solutions

Analyse & Validate architectural requirements including quality attributes non-functional requirements and security controls

Model & Document system architecture using ArchiMate and BizzDesign Enterprise Studio

Support & Enable development and operations teams through design reviews coaching and architectural guidance

Improve & Automate delivery practices through CI/CD tooling automation and Azure DevOps pipelines

Influence & Communicate architectural strategy and decisions to senior stakeholders and programme leadership

Track & Innovate by monitoring emerging technologies methodologies and architectural practices

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

To succeed in this role you will be an experienced architect with a strong background in designing secure applications within Defence or similarly controlled environments. You will bring the ability to translate complex requirements into practical architectural solutions while balancing innovation with rigorous security and assurance requirements. Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience guiding technical teams across the full delivery lifecycle will be essential.

Essential qualifications and experience

You should have extensive experience designing secure resilient applications and data architectures

Strong understanding of Defence Secure by Design principles and their practical implementation

Hands-on experience conducting technical assessments for applications in secure environments

Experience applying CIS Benchmarks for secure configuration of applications middleware and databases

Proven experience delivering secure production implementations including deployment and service transition

Strong client-facing communication skills including engagement with senior stakeholders

Experience with CI/CD tooling and automation practices including Azure DevOps pipelines

Proficiency in architectural modelling including ArchiMate and BizzDesign Enterprise Studio

Ability to analyse architectural drivers including security resilience scalability and performance

Experience working within complex Defence or highly regulated environments

Desirable

SAFe Agile certification or experience working within scaled agile environments

Certification in BizzDesign Enterprise Studio or Horizzon

Strong working knowledge of ArchiMate modelling frameworks
