Job Summary

Expected hours of work per week: 10-20 hours

Work Location & Hours: Biology Commons (Mills 240) and surrounding biology labs

Qualifications for Position:

  • Undergraduate student (sophomore or higher standing)
  • Biology Major.
  • GPA in biology classes >3.5
  • 10-20 hours of availability mostly during the day but some tutoring hours in the evening; individual student schedules vary but may include times from 7:30am through 10pm.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tutoring
  • Teaching lab setup teardown and routine cleaning and organization
  • Assessing and helping to manage lab and office supply inventory
  • Tidying of Biology Commons area
  • Glassware washing
  • Grading
  • Miscellaneous office tasks relating to ongoing departmental operations

Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers) to be developed

    • Developing hands-on experience in laboratory procedures equipment operation and laboratory-related problem-solving.
    • Gaining exposure to biological research methods instructional techniques and academic support.

    • Explaining biological concepts to peers during tutoring sessions.
    • Interacting professionally with students faculty and staff to facilitate lab operations.
    • Documenting lab preparations and inventory for efficient department function.

Work Environment

The work associated job will mostly take place in the Biology Commons area and in the adjacent biology labs on the 2nd floor of Mills
