Job Summary

Primary Purpose Of Position
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success the Associate Vice Provost for Student Success ( AVPSS ) provides institution-wide leadership and strategic oversight for a comprehensive portfolio of student success initiatives that advance undergraduate and graduate persistence progression and degree completion. The AVPSS leads the University Student Success Office ( USSO ) a centralized unit charged with designing implementing assessing and scaling innovative strategies that enhance the student experience and improve key performance metrics related to retention credit momentum and graduation. The AVPSS collaborates extensively with academic colleges Student Affairs Enrollment Management Information Technology Institutional Research and other campus partners to cultivate a coordinated data-informed and student-centered ecosystem of support from initial enrollment through graduation. This role plays a critical leadership function in aligning academic policy interpretation operational processes and technology-enabled student support systems to reduce barriers streamline pathways and promote timely degree completion. As a member of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success Leadership Team the AVPSS contributes to institutional planning and decision-making by helping align academic administrative and budgetary priorities across the Vice Provosts portfolio with particular emphasis on partnership with the Office of the Registrar regarding academic policies curricular experiential learning pathways and student records processes that directly impact student success and the student experience. Working in close partnership with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success the AVPSS co-develops and advances a long-term vision for expanding innovative scalable and technology-enhanced student success strategies including predictive analytics early alert systems proactive advising models academic coaching and high-impact practices to strengthen institutional effectiveness and improve student outcomes.

Minimum Requirements
Earned doctorate (Ph.D. Ed.D. or equivalent terminal degree) from an accredited institution in higher education education educational leadership student affairs counseling psychology public administration or a closely related field. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience working in higher education with experience in advancing departmental college unit or institutional student success. Advanced expertise in designing leading and scaling comprehensive student success initiatives that improve retention persistence credit momentum and graduation outcomes. Strong strategic planning and project management skills with the ability to translate institutional priorities into actionable goals timelines and measurable outcomes. Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional teams and initiatives in a shared-governance environment. Proven capacity to analyze and use institutional data dashboards and predictive analytics to inform decision-making assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Deep working knowledge of higher education policies academic regulations and compliance requirements that impact student progression and degree completion. Demonstrated expertise in personnel management including hiring supervision performance evaluation professional development and team building. Strong budget management and resource allocation skills including experience aligning resources with strategic priorities. Excellent written oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and communicate complex information clearly. Demonstrated consultative collaborative and relationship-centered leadership style with strength in consensus-building and change management. Strong commitment to advancing the mission of a public land-grant 1890 institution.

Preferred Years Experience Skills Training Education
1012 or more years of progressively responsible experience in higher education including senior-level leadership in student success academic affairs enrollment management advising or related areas. Earned doctorate (Ph.D. Ed.D. or equivalent terminal degree) from an accredited institution in higher education educational leadership student affairs public administration counseling or a closely related field. Demonstrated success leading large-scale institution-wide student success initiatives with measurable impact on retention progression credit momentum and graduation outcomes. Advanced expertise in strategic planning assessment institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement practices. Strong fiscal and operational leadership experience including budget development resource allocation and personnel management. Experience leveraging student success technologies and analytics platforms (e.g. early alert systems advising systems degree audit tools predictive analytics) to inform decision-making and improve outcomes. Demonstrated ability to interpret and operationalize academic policies and procedures in collaboration with faculty governance bodies and the Office of the Registrar. Proven capacity to lead change build cross-functional partnerships and foster a collaborative high-performing team environment. Participation in executive leadership development programs or professional training in higher education leadership change management or institutional effectiveness is strongly preferred.
