Lead Fiber Optic Technician Albany NY Region (Healthcare Facilities Support)

Summary

Lead Fiber Optic Technician is a seniorlevel field technician responsible for delivering advanced infrastructure support across several medical facilities in the Albany NY region. This role leads onsite structured cabling lowvoltage systems installation maintenance troubleshooting and project execution while ensuring all work meets healthcaregrade reliability compliance and quality standards. Lead Fiber Optic Technician serves as a technical lead for field teams and acts as a primary liaison between hospital stakeholders project managers and client operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Coordination

  • Provide onsite leadership to infrastructure technicians subcontractors and manpower resources while ensuring adherence to project schedules safety compliance and quality standards.
  • Support the Operations Manager with team assessments workload planning and coordination of sitespecific requirements across multiple medical locations.
  • Represent Client in customer meetings communicating work progress risks and expectations clearly and professionally.

Infrastructure Installation & Maintenance

  • Perform and lead installation testing service and removal of structured cabling systems including Category 3/5/5e/6 fiber optic systems coax and other lowvoltage technologies.
  • Install and maintain cable pathways racks cabinets trays conduits and related communications infrastructure.
  • Diagnose troubleshoot repair and document issues involving cabling infrastructure connectivity and equipment performance.

Healthcare Environment Support

  • Conduct work in compliance with medical facility requirements including infectioncontrol protocols restrictedaccess areas and patientsafety standards.
  • Minimize service disruption by coordinating tasks around clinical schedules and sensitive healthcare operations.

Project Execution & Documentation

  • Assist in project planning scope management and material control to ensure timely completion of project milestones.
  • Conduct site surveys and provide detailed documentation for engineering and project teams.
  • Complete all required closeout packages including test results asbuilt drawings photos quality audits and asset documentation.

Travel & Mobility

  • Travel daily or as required between five regional medical facilities to provide service coverage installation support and emergency response when needed.
  • Transport tools equipment and materials necessary to complete assigned work.

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate degree technical certification or equivalent work experience in IT infrastructure telecommunications or lowvoltage systems.
  • 6 years of progressive experience in infrastructure installation structured cabling field service or site support roles.

Certifications & Technical Skills

  • Preferred credentials: CNET CNCI BICSI INST1 INSTC/INSTF TECH and manufacturerspecific certifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of BICSI ANSI EIA/TIA NEC and relevant federal state and local standards.
  • Ability to install terminate and test a variety of lowvoltage cabling types including copper coaxial and fiber.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read and interpret blueprints wiring diagrams and technical documents.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs climb ladders and work at heights as required.
