Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana seeks applications for a 12-month Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Assistant Professor in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

The clinical coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the program chair. Clinical education effectiveness must be evaluated and ensured through a schedule of regular visits to the clinical affiliate/clinical education centers. The clinical coordinator also collaborates with the program chair in periodic review and revision of clinical course material. It is also the clinical coordinators responsibility to teach and evaluate the students in the appropriate program concentrations. The clinical coordinator is responsible for advising program students and must follow program and university policies and procedures. The clinical coordinator must possess the appropriate credential specific to the sonographic concentration and must have documented experience in supervision instruction evaluation student guidance and educational theories and techniques. The clinical coordinator must have a minimum of two years clinical experience as a credentialed sonographer in the professional sonography field. The clinical coordinator must also maintain a current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development. The clinical coordinators responsibilities include coordination instruction and evaluation.

Position begins June 1 2026 or when filled.

Duties/Responsibilities

The following are examples of typical duties that may be assigned. It does not imply that the position will perform all duties listed nor does it necessarily list all possible duties that may be assigned.

Clinical Duties
Maintain health records for all students utilizing the DISA Healthcare Technology online management system.
Arrange assignment of students with clinical sites.
Coordinate new student orientation to all clinical affiliates.
Provide new student orientation to clinical policies and procedures (every fall semester and on an as-needed basis).
Maintain accurate attendance records for students.
Maintain adequate and open communication with clinical affiliates (email phone and site visits).
Confer with clinical instructors and staff sonographers throughout the semester regarding progression and evaluation of students.
Maintain the online clinical management system (Trajecsys) including revising online tools and changing/revising student time records.
Assist in the maintenance of student clinical education progress records to ensure that clinical and didactic rotations are a learning experience for students.
Review student clinical exam logs to ensure JRC-DMS accreditation standards are met.
Conduct conferences with students on clinical matters responsibilities and problems.
Assist in the development of evaluation tools to measure students clinical skills.
Assist in the evaluation of students to measure clinical competency in all areas.
Confer with hospital and/or free-standing imaging center staff on student problems or concerns.
Create and update student progress records as needed including all information necessary for disciplinary action if warranted.

Faculty Duties
Assist students with decisions regarding professional plans and goals.
Counsel students interested in pursuing Diagnostic Medical Sonography as a major.
Teach assigned didactic courses at the university.
Serve on the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admissions committee.
Serve on the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Advisory committee.
Attend program faculty meetings and advisory committee meetings regularly to discuss goals and direction.
Assist in curriculum development and revision.
Assign final grades for clinical and didactic courses each semester.
Assist in the development and revision of program policies as needed.
Continue professional development and education through attendance at workshops symposia seminars and professional society meetings.
Provide evidence of performance in the areas of teaching scholarship professional activity practice and service using the University and College criteria.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • A masters degree in a related field is required. Applicants with a bachelors degree will be considered but must have a masters degree in a related field completed by end of May 2027 for position renewal.

  • Eligible applicants should hold current ARDMS certification in Abdomen OBGYN and Vascular sonography or Abdomen OBGYN and Adult Cardiac sonography.

  • The clinical coordinator should demonstrate leadership teaching and experience in academic and clinical settings; experience with program development and accreditation processes; outstanding communication and collaboration skills and engagement with professional organizations.

  • Valid Drivers License is required to facilitate transportation to off-campus clinical sites.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

Typical hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Occasionally irregular hours and travel may be required.

The faculty in the Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions work collaboratively with nursing and other health care professional faculty.
