Manufacturing Supplier Quality Engineer
Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that supplied materials and components meet quality standards and specifications. This role collaborates closely with suppliers procurement engineering and manufacturing teams to drive supplier performance resolve quality issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives. The SQE plays a critical role in maintaining product quality reducing defects and supporting overall operational excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop implement and maintain supplier quality requirements and standards.
- Evaluate and qualify new suppliers through audits capability assessments and APQP processes.
- Monitor supplier performance using key metrics such as PPM FPY and on-time delivery.
- Lead supplier corrective action processes (SCAR) and ensure timely and effective resolution using 8D methodology.
- Conduct supplier audits (process system and product) to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
- Review and approve supplier PPAP submissions and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
- Support incoming inspection activities and disposition of nonconforming materials (MRB).
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams to resolve quality issues and implement preventive measures.
- Analyze quality data and trends to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure suppliers comply with applicable regulatory and industry standards.
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) activities to ensure supplier readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Quality Manufacturing or related field.
- 37 years of experience in supplier quality manufacturing or quality engineering.
- Strong knowledge of quality tools: APQP PPAP FMEA SPC MSA and Control Plans.
- Experience with root cause analysis methodologies (8D 5 Whys Fishbone).
- Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001 IATF 16949 or equivalent).
- Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in quality data analysis tools and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Certification such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) is a plus.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Occasional exposure to noise moving machinery and varying temperatures in production areas.
- Ability to stand walk and perform inspections for extended periods.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in manufacturing areas.
TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED
- Approximately 2040% travel required.
- Domestic and international travel to supplier locations for audits development and issue resolution.
- Flexibility to travel on short notice as needed.
