The Role

Hayesfield Girls School is seeking a versatile and passionate educator to join our thriving Design & Technology department from September 2026. This unique role is designed for a specialist in Product Design or Textiles who also has the interest or ability to support KS3 Computer Science.

At Hayesfield we believe the Design Journey is increasingly intersectional. You will have the opportunity to lead students through high-level physical creation at GCSE and A-Level while simultaneously helping our younger students master the foundational principles of Computer Science. Working alongside the Head of Computer Science you will help shape a curriculum where Design Thinking meets computational logic ensuring our students see the vital links between how a product is built and how technology powers it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialist Teaching: Deliver high-quality Product Design or Textiles lessons guiding students through the technical rigours of the subject up to A-Level.
  • KS3 Digital Innovation: Support the foundational Computer Science curriculum focusing on coding digital literacy and creative problem-solving.
  • Curriculum Integration: Help bridge the gap between physical design and digital innovation preparing students for a world where these fields constantly overlap.
  • Dismantling the Glass Ceiling: Actively inspire young women to enter technical fields from structural engineering and sustainable fashion to software development.
  • Industry Engagement: Leverage our location in Batha global hub for innovationto connect students with partners like Rotork Buro Happold and Mulberry.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Teaching Qualification: QTS (or equivalent) with a specialism in Product Design or Textiles.
  • Subject Expertise: Ability to teach your D&T specialism to KS5/A-Level and a passion for engaging KS3 students in Computer Science.
  • Versatility: A future-proofed approach to design with an interest in how digital skills underpin modern technical education.
  • Ambition: A commitment to the Achieving Ambitions ethos with high aspirations for every students success.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within the D&T team and the wider Bath Hub.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in delivering basic coding or digital literacy programmes.
  • A strong interest in the Engineering in Design or Smart Textiles pathways.
