The Role:

We are looking for aRegistered Practitioner with specialist knowledge in obesity medications and with an independent prescribing qualificationto support patients as part of our digital-first healthcare this role you will conduct consultations assess patient histories prescribe medications from our limited formulary and provide ongoing support to ensure safe and effective treatment.


As part of our multidisciplinary team (MDT) you will work closely with the Clinical Lead and play a key role in reviewing patient progress addressing clinical concerns and ensuring high-quality care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting remote consultations via asynchronous messaging video and telephone.
  • Reviewing patient medical histories including Summary Care Records GP records biometric data self-reported information and current medications.
  • Prescribing weight loss medications in line with service treatment plans local and regional NHS service specifications and national NHS guidelines.
  • Providing advice and support to help patients manage their medication safely and effectively including management of any side effects.
  • Scheduling follow ups and manage recall of patients for whom you have prescribed to monitor progress.
  • Identifying contraindications red flags safeguarding concerns or deterioration in physical or mental health and escalating appropriately in line with service policies.
  • Maintaining accurate timely and legally compliant clinical records in line with NHS and organisational standards
  • Collaborating with the wider MDT through weekly meetings including pharmacists GPs consultants dieticians and health coaches.
  • Contributing to audits and quality improvement projects related to prescribing practices.
  • Contributing to service development and the refinement of treatment plans.
  • Participating in clinical supervision appraisal and revalidation processes in line with professional regulatory requirements.
  • Adhering to information governance confidentiality and data protection requirements when handling patient information.

The post-holder will be clinically accountable to the Clinical Lead and operate under the services clinical governance framework. Prescribing will be undertaken in line with approved service SOPs treatment pathways and formulary restrictions with deviations discussed with the Clinical Lead.

About You

This role requiresan in-depth knowledge of the current NHS obesity medication landscape. Strong clinical judgement excellent communication skills and a patient-focused approach are essential. You should be comfortable working in a digital healthcare setting and managing consultations remotely.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has up-to-date clinical knowledge particularly in relation to the conditions we treat and the medications we particular experience prescribing GLP1 medication is essential.
  • Is confident in prescribing and adheres to theRoyal Pharmaceutical Societys Prescribing Competency FrameworkandGeneral Medical Councils Good Practice in Prescribing and Managing Medicines and Devices.
  • Can assess when remote care is appropriate and recognise potential safeguarding concerns.
  • Is proficient in handling referrals interpreting medical reports including laboratory investigations and managing information from GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Can work effectively using cloud-based systems and digital tools (full training provided).
  • Is able to manage their own schedule to ensure safe effective and timely service delivery.
  • Enjoys learning and developingboth clinically through CPD and operationally by contributing to service improvements.
  • Is comfortable working in aremote-firstenvironment communicating via email chat video calls and telephone.
  • Works well within a team and is committed to supporting colleagues in their development.

About the Service

BSOP-Tirzepatide is anon-consultant-led Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management service prescribes Tirzepatide to patients under the NICE Technology Appraisal TA1026 guidelines. Behavioural wrap around support is delivered through separate providers in these instances.

The service also includes consultant supported Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management including under the NHS Right to Choose approach. Prescribers may work across all pathways depending on service demand and clinical complexity.

Our MDT includes but is not limited todieticians nutritionists psychologists doctors and other prescribers working together to provideholistic evidence-based care.



Requirements

About You:

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Registered with theNursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) GPhC or GMC
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification
  • Minimum 2 years experienceas an Independent Prescriber within the NHS
  • At least 1 years experienceworking in a weight management or diabetes service
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Level 3 Safeguarding certification
  • Indemnity insurance(your work for the service will be covered under our organisations policy)
  • Excellent spoken and written english skills
  • Experience working in a remote healthcare setting

Desirable:

  • 2 years experiencein weight management in primary or secondary care
  • 2 years experienceworking in remote healthcare services
  • Experience working within an MDT(multi-disciplinary team)
  • Additional qualifications in obesity care such as SCOPE certification

Time Commitment

  • Candidates must be able to start from the 1st March 2026
  • While the role is expected to average approximately one day per week the contract will be issued on a minimum-hours basis (starting from 1 hour per week) to allow flexibility in line with patient demand.
  • Competitive salary / aligned with NHS Agenda for Change equivalent.
  • As the service expands there may be opportunities to increase hours so were looking for someone who may be open to a growing commitment over the coming months.
