SUMMARY

The Clinical Resource Registered Nurse provideseducational instruction and intervention within clinical settings and the community for nursing students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Instructs student nurses in the theoretical and clinical aspects of the practice of nursing in the clinical or laboratory setting under the direction of the nursing director or faculty.
  • Consults with Director of Nursing and faculty in developing clinical learning opportunities that meet the outcomes for the nursing program.
  • Instructs students and facilitates discussions about accepted methods of evidenced based nursing practice including professional aspects of nursing theories of physiology and psychodynamics assessment nursing interventions medical surgical and other health treatments (such as observing and recording symptoms and applying principles of asepsis and antisepsis etc.).
  • Interacts and collaborates with nursing service personnel to enhance learning experience in nursing unit or community.
  • Supervises care provided by a group of students (usually 6-10 students in a group) while they complete their clinical rotation in assigned areas
  • Collaborates with the faculty to assign students to patients and observes performance in actual nursing situations.
  • Makes systematic observations and objective judgments about student performance; provides input on clinical paperwork to determine student achievement; maintains necessary records to document student progress.
  • Assists students through observational and participative experiences to apply nursing theory the nursing process and nursing techniques in clinical settings.
  • Counsels students on educational and related problems; facilitates problem solving process; offers advice and assistance as deemed necessary with input from lead faculty.
  • Maintains and updates student and other administrative files
  • Makes recommendations to Director of Nursing and faculty in developing curriculum content and improved teaching and nursing techniques.
  • Discusses instructional or related matters with Director of Nursing; strives continuously to improve quality of student instruction.
  • Promotes patient and student safety
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students faculty and the College.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Program Director Nursing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate of Science Nursing degree from an accredited institution; AND
  • Current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the State of Montana; AND
  • Two years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse
  • Certification of skills and knowledge required for the clinical setting such as age-specific competencies Accucheck telemetry BLS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced coursework or Bachelors degree in nursing.
  • Five years of clinical experience
  • Experience supervising nursing students in clinical sites.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain licensure as a registered nurse in Montana.
  • Current knowledge of professional nursing theories techniques and practices in nursing.
  • Ability to maintain the philosophy objectives and curricula of FVCC Nursing program.
  • Ability to follow the state laws governing the education and registry of practical and professional nurses.
  • Knowledge of health care agencies/hospitals organization and functions of departments policies regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate educational experiences with nursing staff personnel.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the community health care partners and students.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings weekends etc.
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.
  • Ability to follow and issue directions.
  • Demonstrated effective communication presentation customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
  • This is aMedium Dutyjob according to theSelected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles U.S. Department of Labor and Dutyinvolves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
