Summary
  • The Restorative Practice Officer is tasked with delivering developing and supporting restorative justice interventions for children young people and victims within the Youth Justice Service (YJS). This role is crucial in embedding restorative practices across the service ensuring alignment with national standards and best practices. It contributes to reducing reoffending while promoting victim voice accountability and positive outcomes. The post holder will collaborate with victims young people volunteers and professional partners to facilitate safe meaningful restorative processes while upholding safeguarding equality and statutory responsibilities.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver and facilitate restorative justice interventions including face-to-face meetings shuttle mediation restorative conferences victim awareness work group programs and Referral Order Panels.
  • Complete restorative justice assessments for young people and victims ensuring timely sharing of information with relevant practitioners and report authors.
  • Identify and screen complex or serious cases and liaise with probation services when required.
  • Prepare participants including children young people victims and families to take part safely and meaningfully in restorative processes.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and manage risks to ensure safe practice for all involved.
Essential Experience Required
  • Direct experience delivering restorative justice youth justice mediation victim support or similar interventions.
  • Experience working with children young people or vulnerable individuals in challenging or sensitive situations.
Essential Qualifications Required
  • Relevant qualification in youth justice social care criminology mediation community work or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of restorative justice practice national standards and safe facilitation methods.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and responsibilities.
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week
  • Location: 6 Brixton Hill London Lambeth SW2 1RW United Kingdom
  • Interviews will be in-person at 19 Brixton Water Lane SW2 1NU
  • Work pattern: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote
  • Payment schedule: Bi-weekly
