About The Position
Under the general direction of the Technical Coordinator the Technical Officer (Technical Stores) provides high-quality support to ensure the safe compliant and efficient operation of Technical Stores and associated STEM laboratories and workspaces. The role is responsible for managing inward goods receival and inventory control of laboratory consumables chemicals and temperature-sensitive materials ensuring accurate documentation cold chain integrity and appropriate storage in support of teaching and research activities.
The position contributes to effective chemical lifecycle management through the barcoding and registration of containers within the ChemAlert system maintaining accurate inventories and supporting compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements. The role also coordinates chemical and biological waste processes ensuring the maintenance of accurate records and adherence to safety environmental and operational standards.
To be successful in this position youll have:
1. Demonstrated knowledge/experience in a Scientific or Technical store/lab or similar area.
2. Experience and knowledge in the routine use of inventory software or generating appropriate inventory or warehousing documentation including chemical storage and handling practices and techniques.
3. Proven laboratory operations and maintenance experience preferably in a teaching or research
warehousing environment.
4. Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with knowledge of other field or industry
regulations or standards related to the field within the scope of the service area.
5. Proven initiative and problem-solving skills highly organised and the ability to work autonomously and in a team.
6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross functional teams and with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds.
7. Demonstrated experience and understanding of working in accordance to the RMIT value statements or similar frameworks in other organisations.
