Job Summary

Overview

The Drafting / Tool Designer is responsible for creating detailed engineering drawings tool designs and manufacturing documentation for aerospace sheet metal and machined components. This role supports production and engineering teams by developing accurate CAD models tooling concepts and fabrication drawings that meet aerospace quality safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for aerospace sheet metal and machined components.

  • Design manufacturing tooling including fixtures jigs forming tools drill templates and assembly tooling.

  • Interpret and apply engineering specifications GD&T and aerospace standards to drawings and tooling designs.

  • Develop flat patterns bend allowances and forming details for sheet metal parts.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing quality and engineering teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet performance requirements.

  • Revise and update drawings based on engineering changes (ECOs/ECNs).

  • Support production by troubleshooting tooling and manufacturing issues related to sheet metal forming and machining.

  • Maintain drawing control and documentation in PLM/PDM systems.

  • Ensure all designs comply with aerospace quality standards (AS9100) and internal processes.

  • Participate in design reviews and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of drafting or tool design experience preferably in aerospace or precision manufacturing.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks CATIA Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD).

  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes (forming bending punching trimming).

  • Knowledge of CNC machining processes and machining tolerances.

  • Ability to read and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5.

  • Familiarity with aerospace drawings and specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
