Job Summary

TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION FACILITATOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess Valid Kentucky Special Education Teaching Certification
  2. Masters Degree in education field
  3. Minimum of five years successful teaching experience in special education
  4. Experience and background knowledge of special education law and due process procedures
  5. Experience in conducting educational evaluations of special education students

REPORT TO/EVALUATED BY: Director of Special Education/Superintendent

BASIC FUNCTION: Coordinate the facilitation of special education services to students by working with teachers administrators students and families.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  1. Support special education teachers by assisting in:
  • Scheduling ARC meetings
  • Organizing and properly completing IEPs and related paperwork
  • Completing educational testing for evaluations and reevaluations
  • Classroom support and mentoring
  • Developing behavior intervention plans and programs for students
  • Meeting deadlines for ARCs and evaluations
  • Conducting home visits for students when necessary

2. Support the building administrator by:

    • Serving as an additional ARC chairperson
    • Working with teachers to schedule ARC meetings and ensuring that timelines are met within the building.
    • Working with special education teachers to improve the instruction in the classroom
    • Assisting in devising behavior programs for difficult students
    • Ensuring quality special education services for students throughout the district

    3. Assist and support special education teachers by conducting educational assessments and developing instructional plans for students with disabilities.

    4. Support school staff in the coordination of special education services for students throughout the district.

    5. Assist building administrator in providing special education services for special needs students throughout the district.

    6. Provide duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or Superintendent.

    7. Support regular education staff in the special education referral process

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
