DescriptionSenior Highway Design Engineer (Drainage)
Location: LancashireContract: Full-time Permanent
We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Design Engineer (Drainage) to support the design and delivery of major highway and property schemes across Lancashire contributing to regeneration growth and sustainable travel initiatives. The role also provides specialist drainage expertise across council services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and construction supervision of drainage elements for a wide range of highway and other infrastructure schemes including the school building programme.
- Produce Flood Risk Assessments and support planning applications.
- Review external submissions for compliance with national and local standards including SuDS.
- Manage and mentor engineering staff.
- Develop design solutions and prepare drawings schedules and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with contractors stakeholders and partner organisations to ensure programmes are delivered efficiently.
Current and Recent Projects
Our recent and ongoing capital programme includes:
- Burnley Pendle Hyndburn Growth Corridor improvements.
- Major Section 278 works in Preston city centre.
- A new strategic link road with complex ground conditions.
- Public realm improvements with district councils.
- Rural cycle route development.
- Transforming Cities Fund schemes.
- New build and extension projects for schools.
What Were Looking For
- Strong technical background in drainage and highway design.
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects to budget and programme.
- Ability to lead and support junior team members.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Eligibility to work and be based in the UK.
- Holds a UK driving licence and has access to a car.
