Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875. It is anindependent non-denominational day and boarding school for boyswith a total enrolment of 1200 from Preparatory to Year are approximately 300 boarders in the School comingpredominantly from throughout Queensland Northern New South Walesand the Northern Territory. The Schools campus covers20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre ofToowoomba.

It is our vision that our boys will graduate from TGS with theskills to be independent well-balanced and successful inlife. That they are boys of good character who respond wellto challenges and achieve life-long wellbeing.

Boarding House Supervisors

Toowoomba Grammar School welcomes expressions of interest forboarding house supervisors. These positions would suituniversity students recent graduates or residential carers.

The Role

Led by theDirector of Boardingthe TGS BoardingStaff operate collaboratively to provide a supportive andaspirational environment in which the wellbeing and interests ofeach individual boy are nurtured enabling him to develop hischaracter and be the best he can be.

TGS provides ahighly developed residential setting whereboys love to boardand where academic care andleadership development are core.

Tasks & responsibilities include:

  • Being aware of and respond to the pastoral needs of boys in the House by doing all things possible to promote a strong culture of respect for others their interests and their property and eliminate any bullying or harassment.
  • Assisting the Head of House in maintaining a culture which values academic endeavour and a commitment to doing as well as possible in academic studies.
  • Liaising with other boarding staff on all matters associated with boys development.
  • Maintaining constant and active supervision presence in and around the boarding house monitoring behaviour language appearance and appropriate use of technology and social media.
  • Liaising with other boarding staff regarding the boarders social and recreational activities.

Duty Hours:

Boarding Supervisor shifts may:

  • fall within term-time over approximately 37 weeks per year
  • be rostered on Public Holidays that fall within term time
  • be a minimum of 2 hours and may be up to 7.6 hours commencing
    • after 3pm Monday - Friday
    • or rostered bewtween 6am and 10.30pm on weekends.

Qualifications & experience

  • Previous experience in working with and relating to young people
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing the interests and wellbeing of boys
  • Willingness to contribute to a flourishing environment for young people
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications and ability
  • First Aid Certified
  • Drivers Licence

Desired attributes:

  • A high level of interpersonal skills to understand and work co-operatively with adolescent boys.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities especially students and parents but including other staff and visitors.
  • Be of sober disposition and able to dispense discipline in a firm but fair manner.
  • Be highly organised regarding day-to-day routine and detail.
  • Be punctual and reliable in relation to duty days and times.
  • Presentation/appearance appropriate to the position.
  • Have the ability to show initiative and to work independently and be able to work across a roster that includes evening and weekends shifts
