DescriptionThe Material Coordinator is responsible for coordinating material activities and system transactions required to support outsourced fabrication activities. Working closely with Procurement Planning Warehouse Logistics Finance Quality and other cross-functional stakeholders this role maintains visibility of material status coordinates required documentation and helps resolve material-related issues that may impact fabrication schedules.
This position plays a key role in maintaining material readiness coordinating required material documentation and supporting KPI tracking related to material availability delivery performance and fabrication readiness to ensure supplier fabrication and ship construction schedules remain on track. The Material Coordinator maintains material coordination activities in accordance with Seaspans operational processes documentation requirements and applicable quality and classification society standards.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
What youll do
- Coordinate system transactions required to support material movements associated with outsourced fabrication and ship construction.
- Support the procurement team by coordinating material readiness activities related to supplier deliveries fabrication schedules and purchase order execution.
- Create and manage material requests and related system transactions including issuing transfers adjustments and tracking of materials allocated to fabrication activities.
- Work closely with Planning teams to align fabrication start dates and production schedules with material readiness.
- Coordinate with Warehouse and Logistics teams to support material transfers shipments and inventory movements to fabrication suppliers.
- Maintain visibility of material availability and proactively identify potential shortages or risks that could impact fabrication schedules.
- Track and coordinate urgent material requests including replacements rework materials or scope additions required to support fabrication schedules.
- Assist in retrieving and coordinating required material documentation such as material certifications technical records and quality documentation needed for fabrication and inspection requirements.
- Support reconciliation and tracking of materials issued to fabrication partners to maintain inventory accuracy and material accountability.
- Coordinate with warehouse and quality teams to support material inspections traceability and documentation requirements where applicable.
- Maintain reporting and support KPI tracking related to material availability delivery performance documentation completeness and upcoming material demand.
- Work with internal stakeholders to drive resolution of material discrepancies damaged shipments missing materials or documentation gaps that may impact fabrication or installation schedules.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve material visibility coordination processes and supply chain efficiency.
- Analyze material movement and shipment data to identify opportunities to optimize delivery schedules shipment consolidation and transportation planning for materials between fabrication partners.
What youll bring
- Diploma or bachelors degree in supply chain management Logistics Business Engineering or a related field.
- Preferred 2 years of experience in materials coordination logistics warehouse operations or supply chain support within a manufacturing industrial construction marine or shipbuilding environment.
- Familiarity with MRP ERP and WMS systems and material transaction processes such as inventory transfers material requests and inventory tracking.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and drive resolution of material or documentation issues across multiple teams.
- Strong communication skills.
- Professional certification such as SCMP (PMAC) APICS . or equivalent is considered an asset.
