Role Summary


The Global Head of Medical Performance & Field Medical Excellence is accountable for setting the vision strategy and operating model that elevate Medical Affairs execution globallydriving measurable impact on launch excellence scientific engagement quality evidence generation pull-through and improved patient care. Leading a high-performing team of nine direct reports (seven Global Medical Performance & Field Medical Excellence Directors and two Global Medical Insights & Analytics Directors across BBU therapy areas) this role defines enterprise standards capabilities and measurement frameworks; orchestrates consistent adoption across markets; and stewards a data-driven insights-led culture in Field Medical. Partnering closely with Global Medical leadership Market Companies and cross-functional stakeholders the role ensures strategic alignment and execution excellence across disease areas brands and geographies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Strategy and Operating Model: Define and communicate the global vision strategy and multi-year roadmap for BBU Medical Performance and Field Medical Excellence. Establish a scalable operating model and governance that balance global consistency with local market agility across launch and in-line portfolios.

  • KPI Frameworks and Performance Management: Set enterprise standards for disease area and brand KPIs that demonstrate Medical impact including leading and lagging indicators clear targets and accountabilities. Oversee the integrity cadence and executive-ready reporting of performance reviews risks and corrective actions.

  • Field Medical Excellence and FMSPs: Direct the development and global cascade of Field Medical Strategic Plans (FMSPs) ensuring clarity of objectives capabilities and execution standards. Identify strategic and execution gaps and deploy targeted interventions and capability build programs to close them at pace.

  • Medical Insights and Analytics: Lead the global insights and analytics agenda in partnership with two Global Medical Insights & Analytics Directors. Ensure robust timely and decision-grade analytics integrated dashboards and triangulated insights aligned to KITs/KIQs to shape strategy evidence plans and external engagement priorities.

  • Resourcing and Deployment Models: Define and optimize medical resourcing and Field Medical deployment models across TAs/brands including capacity planning capability mix and allocation across launch and in-line phases. Ensure models are data-driven and adaptable to evolving portfolio and market needs.

  • Initiative Impact Measurement and ROI: Set standards to measure and communicate the performance and impact of global medical initiatives (scientific assets training education omnichannel programs). Embed ROI learning loops and ensure insights inform future investments and operating model evolution.

  • Technology Enablement and Data Stewardship: Drive adoption of Medical CRM insight platforms content management and analytics dashboards. Set data quality standards and steward relevant master data for Field Medical to enable accurate performance measurement and insight generation at scale.

  • Change Leadership and Capability Build: Lead enterprise change initiatives that modernize Medical performance and Field Medical excellence including operating model evolution technology rollouts and skill transformation. Develop and execute a capability roadmap for Field Medical leaders and MSLs.

  • People Leadership: Build inspire and develop a diverse high-performing team of 9 direct reports (7 Global Medical Performance & Field Medical Excellence Directors and 2 Global Medical Insights & Analytics Directors). Set clear objectives provide coaching and feedback and create succession and development plans. Promote a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • External Benchmarking and Thought Leadership: Track external trends in Medical Affairs scientific engagement and digital/AI enablement. Position AstraZeneca Medical as a differentiated valued partner with customers and as a leader in Medical performance and Field Medical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific/healthcare degree required; doctoral degree preferred (MD PhD PharmD).

  • 10 years in Medical Affairs with significant global or regional leadership experience; prior country Medical experience (e.g. Field Medical Leadership Medical Director/Advisor) strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated success building and scaling Medical Excellence or Field Medical Excellence programs and performance frameworks across multiple markets and therapy areas.

  • Track record leading large crossfunctional initiatives technology enablement and operatingmodel change in complex highly regulated environments.

  • Advanced analytical mindset with proficiency in performance analytics real-world data concepts and engagement quality measures; ability to translate insights into decisive actions.

  • Deep understanding of payer and health system needs external stakeholder dynamics and compliance requirements.

  • Strong executive presence and exceptional communication skills; influences at enterprise level; ability to shape strategy and dive into execution detail.

  • High learning agility cross-cultural collaboration and the ability to influence without authority across functions and geographies.

  • Proficiency with Medical CRM content management omnichannel platforms AI-enabled coaching/quality tools and dashboarding/BI solutions; able to define user requirements and drive adoption.
