Job Summary

The Vall dHebron Research Institute (VHIR) is offering a position for a Data Engineer/Bioinformatics Technician within the Group of Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Digestive Tract Exocrine Pancreas Research Unit.

The Data Engineer-Bioinformatics Technician will work in an interdisciplinary biomedical environment contributing to the completion of the project titled Nueva herramienta basada en Inteligencia Artificial y Biomarcadores para el diagnostico precoz no invasivo del cancer de pancreas: AI-Early PanC.

New tool based on Artificial Intelligence and Biomarkers for early non-invasive diagnosis of pancreatic cancer: AI-Early PanC funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación Code: CPP2022-009592 under the call ayudas a proyectos de colaboracion publico-privada 2022.

Main responsibilities and duties:
  • Participate in initial meetings with researchers to understand bioinformatics analysis requirements and study needs.

  • Harmonise anonymise and prepare data for AI training and/or validation.

  • Perform data management tasks including curation transformation validation and documentation.

  • Prepare technical reports and analysis documentation.

  • Support researchers in interpreting and communicating results.

  • Ensure compliance with quality standards data governance principles and institutional procedures.

Education and qualifications:
Required:
  • Degree in Bioinformatics Computer Science Data Science Artificial Intelligence or a related field.

Desirable:
  • Postgraduate qualification (Masters degree or equivalent) in relevant disciplines.

Experience and knowledge:
Required:
  • At least two years of experience (or equivalent) in bioinformatics or biomedical data analysis.

  • Proven experience in bioinformatics data analysis including:

  • Pre-processing and analysis of biological datasets.

  • Execution of bioinformatics workflows and pipelines.

  • Strong practical knowledge of computational and bioinformatics environments including:

  • Scripting and analytical programming using Python SQL and/or R.

  • Experience working with and harmonising different types of sensitive data such as:

  • Sociodemographic information.

  • Clinical history (including diagnoses).

  • Medical imaging.

  • Laboratory test results and biopsy data.

  • Ability to produce technical reports document analyses and communicate results clearly.

Desirable:

Specific knowledge and expertise:

  • Experience working in collaborative biomedical research groups with direct interaction with researchers.

  • Familiarity with electronic data capture (EDC) systems (e.g. REDCap or similar platforms).

  • Experience with ETL tools and workflows (data extraction transformation and loading) particularly in biomedical or research settings.

  • Strong practical knowledge of computational and bioinformatics environments.

Labour conditions:

  • Working hours: Full-time (375 hours per week)

  • Starting date: As soon as possible.

  • Gross annual salary: 36.00000

  • Contract type: Open-ended contract linked to the project

  • Duration: 4-8 months
