Job Title: Transportation CDL Trainer

Reports to: Supervisor II Transportation Safety & Training
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for supporting the Districts Transportation Safety Supervisor including but notlimited to safety and training activities; hiring transportation personnel; facilitatingtransportation safety meetings and tests; and providing information to others.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist in assessing incidents complaints and/or accidents to resolve or recommend a resolution to the situation.
- Facilitate and/or participate in a variety of safety meetings workshops and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations laws and guidelines.
- Implement safety activities and/or processes ensuring that student transportation takes place in compliance with established safety laws regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain safety / incident records and other required mandated information providing needed information and meeting regulatory requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Perform and/or assist with personnel administrative functions as assigned to maintain adequate staffing enhancing safety of personnel and ensuring achievement of department/program outcomes.
- Prepare a variety of materials to document activities provide written reference and/or convey information.
- Provide behind the wheel and classroom training for bus drivers evaluating and reviewing bus drivers job knowledge and complying with state requirements.
- Research a variety of topics in order to make recommendations understand issues and maintain current regulatory standards.
- Respond to all emergencies addressing immediate safety concerns.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree or equivalent preferred.
- Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Certificates Licenses and Other Special Requirements
- Class B CDL with passenger air brake and school bus endorsements.
- State Certified Trainer preferred with willingness to obtain.
- Certified CDL Tester preferred with willingness to obtain.
- Pre-Placement Physical Capacities Test.
- Random Drug and Alcohol Testing.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance the results of which must be satisfactory to the District required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic math including calculations using fractions percentages and/or ratios; read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.
- Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include assessment instruments and techniques; codes/laws/rules/regulations/ policies; health standards; and methods of instruction and training.
- Skill to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
- Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including: analyzing data; comparing results; conducting interviews; conducting meetings; counseling and mentoring employees; enforcing rules and regulations; facilitating meetings; interviewing techniques and practices.
- Ability to read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions.
- Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
- Ability to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to the roadway; near moving mechanical parts and traffic; and in confined spaces.
- The work is very heavy work that requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes express or exchange ideas by the spoken word substantial movements (motions) with the hands wrists and/or fingers and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
- Additionally the following physical abilities are required: balancing climbing crawling crouching feeling grasping handling hearing kneeling manual dexterity mental acuity reaching repetitive motion speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity and walking.
