About the Role

  • We are seeking an Assistant Accountant / Payroll Administrator to join our Finance team reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant. This role is a key position within the team supporting both payroll and the wider finance function to ensure accurate timely and compliant financial operations.
  • A significant portion of this role is focused on payroll. You will be responsible for supporting the processing of weekly and fortnightly payroll cycles ensuring all data is accurate reconciled and compliant with relevant legislation. This includes reviewing timesheets managing deductions investigating discrepancies and maintaining accurate payroll records. You will also respond to payroll-related queries and support reporting and audit requirements.
  • In addition to payroll responsibilities you will contribute to the finance function by assisting with month-end processes including journals reconciliations and reporting. You will support variance analysis and work closely with the wider team to ensure financial information is accurate and meaningful.
  • You will also provide support across accounts payable and general finance activities while developing a strong understanding of the organisations systems and how financial data flows through the business. There is an expectation that you will contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • This role offers a balance of payroll and accounting exposure providing an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build capability across both areas within a commercial environment.

About You

  • You are a motivated and detail-oriented individual who takes pride in delivering accurate high-quality work. You understand the importance of meeting deadlines and are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where precision is critical.
  • You will have approximately one to two years of experience in a commercial finance or payroll role along with a relevant accounting qualification. You may already be working towards or have an interest in pursuing a CA or CPA qualification.
  • You bring strong technical capability including proficiency in Microsoft 365 particularly Excel and experience working with financial systems. Exposure to payroll processes and legislation will be important along with the ability to confidently investigate issues and resolve discrepancies.
  • You are a clear and professional communicator who is able to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business. You take a proactive approach to your work identify issues early and follow them through to resolution.
  • You enjoy working as part of a team and contribute positively to team culture by supporting others sharing knowledge and continuously looking for ways to improve how things are done.
  • Experience with NetSuite or Datapay would be advantageous but is not essential.
