Job Summary

Mō tēnei tūranga - About the role 

This role provides support via various helplines (Shine Family Violence Elder Abuse NZDF4U Family Services Directory and Safe to Talk/Kōrero mai ka ora) operating 7 days a week including holidays. We encourage applicants with experience in Kaupapa Māori or Māori models of care.

The role is located in Auckland Wellington or Christchurch offices but were open to discussing Work From Home or hybrid options for experienced candidates. Full-time or part-time applicants are welcome.

Ngā haepapa matua - Key responsibilities 

  • Risk assessment followed by appropriate safety planning and referrals
  • Providing non-judgemental support and psychoeducation within the context of family and sexual harm
  • Engaging with callers using multiple communication channels such as phone email SMS and online chat
  • Supporting callers when they are experiencing a high-risk situation
  • Communicating with external agencies (including emergency services)
  • Accurate documentation of notes and relevant information on various databases
  • Supporting other team members in the Family and Sexual Harm Team during risk calls / risk engagements and providing de-briefing support where needed
  • Participating in quality improvement and service developments to ensure effective and safe service delivery
  • Supporting the Family and Sexual Harm team and providing overflow support as required
  • Required to be able to answer calls emails SMS and online chat for our other Family and Sexual harm services

Qualifications :

Youre here for meaningful mahi supporting people impacted by family and sexual harm when it matters most. You bring traumainformed practice excellent listening skills and steady decision-making with the ability to assess respond to risk and connect people to the right next step. Youre comfortable working across telehealth channels (phone text email and web chat) and across a 24/7 roster and you show up with care for both service users and your team.

Ōu wheako ōu mātauranga hoki - Qualifications and experience 

  • 1-2 years studying towards qualification (ideally completed or working towards Bachelors Degree in relevant field) and/or 3 years work experience in relevant field e.g. counselling addictions nursing psychology psychotherapy and social work
  • Experience of supervision or coaching
  • Working towards registration with a relevant body within the Mental Health and Addictions field
  • Ideally six months experience working in Telehealth or similar role e.g. Helplines / eTherapy/F2F counselling or Therapy
